I want a buckwheat husk pillow because I could make a depression in the pillow so I can lay on my side with earbuds in. The price of buckwheat pillows is off-putting. Bulk buckwheat husk isnt much better - about $40 for a standard pillow.

Do you have any ideas for alternative pillow filling?

I tried making a donut pillow with poly beads and chopped foam stuffing from my favorite pillow. I think it will work. I need to sleep on it 😉

I wonder if you couldn't just get one of those zip pillow protectors and fill it with rice.
I have zip pillow protectors, thats why I was thinking standard size pillow 😁

I have small fabric bags of rice for heat packs, I can see if they function before scaling up.

Rice is heavy so I probably couldnt make it standard size pillow. (Thats okay, I can sew)

Oh! I have plastic beads leftover from making stuffed animals for my nieces a few years ago. I wouldn't buy it for this purpose, but I already have them so I could try them too. Maybe in a donut shaped pillow? They are round and smooth so they might not hold a divot as well as a natural material.

I have a lightly filled feather pillow that I scrunch around so my big headphone doesn't shove into my head. My more expensive feather pillow doesn't scrunch as well for adjusting. I think the more expensive one has baffles and the cheap one doesnt
