We are going to be building a cabin on property we purchased in Northern Wisconsin. I am very excited but a little nervous. To meet the 500 square foot requirement we are building a 16X24 cabin with a 12 foot loft. My husband and I will be building it ourselves (we built our first house too) but we have never build anything with a loft. We are putting 10 foot sidewalls and a 12/12 pitch roof.

I am wondering if anyone on here has ever built a building such as this? If you have, what advice to you have to give?

Eeek, a 12/12 roof pitch is rather scary to me. Okay, real scary.

We built our house too, but in the end opted to go with a full second story instead of loft. Now we're sorry that we didn't go earth berm instead. :D Too much wind and battling with heat/cooling.

Are you building standard frame, post or what?

I love the concept of little houses!

It will be standard frame.

Is the 12/12 scary because you would hate to shingle it (I do not plan on participating in this part....heights are not my thing) or is there some other reason?
