What have I been up to lately... Well, I tried my hand at making some beef jerky this week. I made honey bbq flavor, and dehydrated it in my Nesco. It turned out great! The kids love eating it for a snack.
I also have been making rose oil, by infusing rose petals in almond oil. I've just been plucking the petals off the rose flowers and putting them in a jar and covering with the oil. I have never tried this before, so I wasn't sure how much fragrance would be infused into the oil. I was very happy to find that it has a very lovely smell! I will definitely be making more of this for Christmas time. I don't know if I will gift just the infused oil, or if I will try to incorporate the oil into a balm or soap. I'm thinking the fragrance might be lost if I try to add it to soap though.
I have lots and lots of yellow pear tomatoes ripening, so this weekend, I will be experimenting with dehydrating them. I need to find a recipe for that. I am not sure if they need to be blanched first, and if they should be cut or left whole. They are rather small, so I'm guessing that I could just leave them whole.
I just bought a big jug of Olive Oil from Mountain Rose Herbs, so this weekend, I will be making infused oils like crazy with all the herbs I have growing right now. And if time permits, I may even make a batch of soap.
Hubby's going to be working on the chicken coop this weekend, if the rain holds off. I hope he gets it done soon! I hate to say it since it's only early August, but I can feel fall in the air. I am predicting that it's going to come early this year. I don't know why, I just have a feeling about it. I hope I'm wrong though!
Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!
