The weather forecast for this upcoming week is:

Saturday: 45 in the day, 32 at night.
Sunday: 41 in the day, 27 at night.
Monday: 38 in the day, 24 at night.
Tuesday: 45 in the day, 25 at night.
Wednesday: 50 in the day, 37 at night.
Thursday: 45 in the day, 35 at night.
Friday: 45 in the day, 32 at night.

Do you think this is good enough weather to tap maple trees in Massachusetts?

Under those conditions the sap should be flowing, so I would.

Sounds good. I just tapped mine three days ago. It was down under freezing at night, and sunny and somewhat above freezing during the day (not as high a daytime temp as your forecast, though). The sap was dripping into the bucket. But then, a day later, it clouded over and the temps went back down below freezing (both night and day). Then yesterday, the sun came out, the sap started flowing again... hurray! But it snowed last night. Now, today, it's clouded over and the temp isn't real cold, but cold enough that the sap again is not flowing!:/

But I can't see any harm to have the spile in place and the bucket under it. ;)

People up in Southern MN are tapping their trees.

I'm going to sit this year out. Too many other projects.

Wonder if I could tap some of the red maples in the woods next to me? Couldn't do it this year, but maybe next year.

I don't have the supplies, plus I'm not quite up to hiking thru the cat briers, down to the stream and finding the trees.

I have to find my spiles :/ No telling where those are, but the trees I want to tap are in a yard out in the open, and I have already gotten permission. I just hope the sap flow is still good and not gotten funky yet. I'm gonna tap my hickories too :D

Just did some research on line, and found out that red maple (Acer rubrum) is one best trees, other than sugar maple, to use for maple syrup! And, I know we have them in the woods next door! So, maybe next year!

I went for a walk in the woods, and if I do a bit of clearing out for next spring, there are several nice sized red maples down by the stream! So, next year, I just might be able to make syrup! :woot
