I have a really beautiful, healthy delicious sourdough starter in the fridge. I take it out once a month or so and make pancakes and a big batch of waffles (which I freeze.)

But since my oven has gone out, I never make bread any more except in the bread machine. Does anyone have a breadmachine recipe I can try that uses real, liquid sourdough starter?

thanks

I have a Regal bread machine, which makes a 2 pound loaf. The instruction manual includes a recipe for sourdough bread...... But there is a note below about using the machine for sourdough..

Sourdough Bread in Bread Machine
10 oz sourdough starter
5 - 7 oz warm water
1 3/4 tsp salt
4 c bread flour
2 T sugar
2 tsp active dry yeast

Measure all ingredients into bread pan. Select Basic setting. Select crust setting if other than Medium. Press Start/Stop to begin. When unit signals and the display reads 0:00, press Start/Stop to end. Remove bread.

Sourdough Starter
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
16 oz warm water
2 c all-purpose flour

In a 2 or 3 quart glass bowl, using a wooden or nylon spoon, mix yeast and warm water and let stand 10 minutes. Add flour; mix until thick batter forms. Batter need not be smooth. Cover loosely with cheesecloth, lightweight towel, or plastic wrap; let stand in a warm place for 24 hours. Stir; cover loosely. Place starter in a warm place for 2 to 3 days or until it bubbles and smell sour; stir once a day. Cover loosely with plastic wrap or cover and refrigerate.

To Replenish Starter
After using a portion of starter; replenish with equal amounts of flour and warm water. [If 10 oz (1 1/4 cups) starter is removed to make bread, replenish remaining starter with 10 oz warm water and 10 oz flour.] Stir well to blend, cover and let stand in warm place until bubbly, 3 to 5 hours. Store starter in loosely covered glass container in refrigerator. If not used at the end of one week, remove 1 cup starter and discard; then replenish with equal amounts warm water and flour as instructed above.

NOTE: Sourdough bread made in an automatic bread maker requires the addition of yeast. The starter's strength and the rising times in the bread maker are not long enough to allow proper rising without it.

Oh, thanks! I am going to try it!

I have a sunbeam machine that makes 1.5 or 2 lb loaves. I was disappointed that there was no sourdough recipe. It is my favorite!
