They're not asking $300, they only say that is how much they paid. Offer lower. ;)

See if you can get them to throw in some canning jars and the jar lifter, funnel, etc. If the thing is in great shape and has the book with it, I would offer lower, then pay the $200. It holds 12 quarts!

Oh, make sure that your stove will support it. It is too big for a ceramic top. It will crack it.

One that holds 14 quarts is $265 + shipping new on their website.

If you can a lot at one time, it will be great, but I would definately offer less. It is quite deep and a bit of a reach to the bottom level, so can be a bit awkard.

That is a great brand of canner.

My wife has a 19 qt same brand. They are indestructible and work great. She paid 200 for hers. As previously mentioned watch out for clearance between the top of your stove and the bottom of your cabinet if you have one over your stove. Our clearance is 18.5" and it barely clears. Wife says that model your looking at is on sale at Amazon for 220.00 new. That's before shipping.

My wife would sell me before she sold her canner.

Wife says there is a great sale on all All American canners at Amazon. Shipping is included. Made in Wi.

Is ceramic top the same as glass top? I have a glass top that is not supposed to have canners on it. I am just very careful. Plus, I switched over to steam canners to have way less weight on my stove, less electricity, less water. I have not heard of double-stacker steam canners, though :/

I had a glass top that I used my BIG canner on with no problem. I know a lot of people in my canning group who use them on glass and ceramic tops in spite of directions not to and have not had a problem BUT at the first opportunity I did get a gas stove with burners which I like much better because it's so much easier to control the temp and pressure on the canner with the gas stove for me.

I agree with farmerlor on the gas stove, but it is very far in my future. The pressure regulating is a pain with an electric stove, I have to stand there pretty much the whole time. Get my kitchen cleaned, though, and dash off to do lots of laundry. I do get into trouble if I run over to the computer, though!

The ceramic/glass top stove is the reason I chose the Presto 23 quart pressure canner, because it says right on the box that you can use it on the flat-top stoves. That would make them liable, I would think, so I trust that. You do need to buy gaskets, but my booklet says every three years, and they are not too expensive.

I like to be cautious with my canning, so unlike others who are willing to take some risk (I take some risk with myself, like using raw milk and making raw cheese and yogurt, but I pasteurize when I am giving it away) but I do give lots away so I am much more cautious with the procedure. If someone does get sick, I can try to comfort myself with the fact that I did everything in my power to be safe.

I have bypassed several opportunities to can in the past couple of weeks, as I am waiting for my second canner to arrive so I can do twice as much at once!!
