My friend would like to can some soup, but she's never used a pressure canner. I've offered to lend her mine, but she doesn't have a recipe for the beef and barley soup. Does she need to do anythign different to her normal soup to can it? I'm imagining it's just a beef stock with beef (ground maybe?), barley, and possibly some carrots.

Oops, I was wrong. It's not ground beef, it's a cut up roast or stew meat.

She needs to make the soup a bit watery and place a measuring tablespoon of the long-cooking barley into each quart jar, uncooked, when filling them. Don't put the barley in soup itself then fill the jars, as some jars will have too much barley. Barley takes up a LOT of broth.
