@Grandmas Porch I see a wood stove beneath the bacon & biscuits! . Do you use that all the time??? Oh, how I loved the one my grandmother used full time the way things are now, most houses couldn't accommodate one without special prep. But brought back memories.

No that was just an example of what I was going to do, that is a google pic—But-
This is my stove. I have had it for 11 years.
And I do use it when it is running.

Love the stove! But the corner set up isn't one most kitchens could accommodate. But it's providing heat in winter, also.

Goats?? Thought DH didn't want and y'all decided against....what'd I miss?

Oh he doesn’t,, he says it would be to expensive to feed them over the 4 months of winter,,
These are my sons goats- mini Nubians , he wants to bring all of them to eat down

That won't take long! The fence costs more than the feed...but, goats always eat like never been fed and this is their last meal

IF they find it your garden, herbs, etc -- total destruction. Just a warning. They jump...

I know we had a brief discussion about moles/voles and fruit trees. I ran across this today. I figured out the hard way to keep the ground under young fruit tree baron already. But it's nice to to see it in writing, by someone smarter than me. The hardware cloth is something I didn't think of

I got to spend a little time today with a friend. We talked garden he said his tomatoes aren't doing nothing but the leaves turning yellow and brown. He said he's even watered them and it doesn't help. I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is with both of our tomatoes. The hard pan is HARD from lack of soaking rain. I know I had a hard time getting them planted deep enough for my liking. I think once we get a good soaking rain it will really help soften up the hard pan for roots to penetrate and find the goodies they need to grow big and strong. I don't believe a watering hose is gonna cut the mustard. We need a toad choker rain.

I would agree that probably not enough moisture... but one thing too many people do is to water frequently... WRONG.... soak them to the point of making the ground soft squishy... to get the water to go deep and loosen your hardpan... and not enough nutrients ... like you said their roots need to go down to get more nutrients... and then mulch them heavy and do not water unless the soil under the mulch is getting drier.... Gotta feed the soil to help loosen that hardpan up too...
Here most of the problem has been lack of rain before last week and COOLER than normal temps and they were just not growing and the dry conditions didn't help. I put the soaker hoses on them for 6 hours and really soaked the ground good... squishy wet.... but the warmer temps the last few days and then getting rain to help soak in, has really helped.
Actually are seeing some flowers on the tomatoes now... the Belgium Giants are the best looking ones... some others are pretty pitiful looking... Green beans are actually looking like something now that it is warming up and squash is finally germinating... the butternut squash came through the soil and just sat for 2 weeks,,, just now putting up more leaves... just too chilly...
Potatoes are looking better since I mulched everything and we got the rain....
Garden is going to be late this year...

My cats used to take care of all the moles/voles/even managed to get some of the chipmunks... and rabbits...

Good Morning ALL!
COFFEE IS HOT and READY!!!!
FH decided (I actually think he had some help though) we aren't going to use his bosses wedding venue after all seeing how it's in Wakefield (an hour away), we're NOT going to have a DJ ($400 is too much according to him) but we're going to have the ceremony/reception up at our friends house in their backyard and he's still going to have it catered ($1500-2000). I'm so stressed and frustrated that I just want to say everyone else can just go about their day not knowing nothing while he and I go in front of a judge with a couple others then go out to a dinner. It's suppose to be MY DAY yet every time I suggest something I get told " that's too much thinking or planning" . I had suggested a kids menu (I know our friends kids) so that way it would be something they eat but was told "if kids want a special meal it's up to the parents to provide it".
I'm sorry I'm laying all this on everyone else shoulders and feet when y'all have enough to worry about.
