that is kind of thing that used to happen around here but not since we have a township wide trash pickup that everyone gets taxed to take care of it.

I put up all the bags of feed and loaded up weight box or ballest as it's technically called. With 500 lbs of sand. Well guess what? I have a extra bag again :( 11 bags of sand were on the pallet. Now I have to take a bag back or pay for one bag that I didn't pay for, next week. Sure it's just sand and all but that's not the point.

it may be their way of making a few extra $ each sale, plus it gets people back or talking about them or ? i dunno. i'm in the camp that the first time it's a mistake and i'll be ok paying for it, but if it happens more often i'm just going to tell them that if they keep doing it it's on them... perhaps they'll be ok and keep doing it or not, but it'll be up to them...

yes, every week, it also includes some items for recycling pickup every other week. they will also pick up a certain amount of large items from the curb (appliances, etc.) the rest of the stuff around that people accumulate is covered by a county drop off place that will take toxics, electronics, old paints, etc. but not bulk metals or certain big items - those have to be hauled to a dump and if they are metal or worth enough the dump will even give you some $.

almost everything organic though is not included - we don't have a pickup for leaves or brush or wood, most people will end up burning them (need a burn permit) or finding a way to use them. i tend to bury stuff or just pile it someplace and let it rot. the critters end up pulling it apart looking for bugs, etc. so it's not really wasted. the gardens are happy to deal with any wood scraps i bury down deep enough (it also helps lift up areas that would otherwise be flash flooded at times, etc.).

most time, what i set out each week is a single bag of trash and every other week is two bins of recycle materials that i make sure are fairly clean becaue i don't want to attract ants or other creatures into the garage. the bins are not sealed, there's no odor.

we had the option of getting taller bins with covers that had wheels on them but after seeing how many of those were falling over and how hard it would be to move them through the snow, etc. i was happy to vote for not getting the taller bins and just using the ones we already had that i could carry. the downside to these though is that when it rains stuff will get wet and that doesn't help the recycling process but i will hold some things on rainy days or just wait until the next time. it's normally just a part of life to me and i'm not bothered by any of this. i consider it a good thing to recycle as much as i can. Mom still doesn't care very much but it's ok - just take it all as how it is and keep on ... :)
 
a place i used to live a lot of the people took out their trash by throwing it in the back of their truck and then driving around and having it fly out wherever. yes, seriously... one of the annoying things i was glad to leave behind when i left that area.
 
Speaking of getting old. I needed to wash our new to us winter comforter. Dog hair, muddy paws, and such. I knew I needed a large washer. I went to the laundromat right in the middle of Battle Ground and found ppl putting their comforter in the ONLY large one there - 49 min cycle. So I drove to the other one. Got there, saw the large drum and put my comforter in it. Dang it, forgot the soap. Well, they sell soap there. Put in my 5 quarters and found the machine was out of soap. And it wouldn't give my quarters back, so I picked bleach. I was frustrated with everything, so I went home.

Went back in the afternoon, put my comforter in there, and studied how to turn it on. Thank goodness I did. I couldn't understand why it only said HOT. Where were the water controls? What's going on? Thank goodness again, that I didn't add my liquid soap that I had in a half pint canning jar. I was trying to use the DRYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turned around and looked at the back wall. THERE were the washers!! Moved my comforter, added soap (way too much), put in my cc, and $14.75 later, it started to wash. And soap. Lots of soap. Lots of bubbles. I had brought a book, so I read a few pages, and looked at the washer. Lots of suds. Deep sigh.

I could have moved it to a smaller washer which was only $9.75 for another cycle to get rid of some of the soap. Nah. I moved it to the very same large drum I had been trying to do laundry in, and dried it for 5 minutes. $3.25.

Took it home and spread it out on my rack for drying clothes.

I tell you, friends. I'm losing it.
 
MY thought on this was the price!! Dang, those large washers used to be about $6-8. Haven't been in a while but, best way for the large items. Nothing is like it used to be! 🥴

Those of us at retirement age notice it way more. These young things never knew it was less costly.

Losing it?? Nawh, momentary lapse of unused memory. :old
 
Mama wasn't around. I was hoping to get her on the nest with the actual camera. I'll try again when it gets towards dusk
