Actually it's time for breeding, then the Jan/Feb kids arrive. Dislike the cold aspect but, worms, flies & other bacterias are far less rampant. Some good points. Pastures are dormant, not good for the goat moms but, hay & feed are provided. It balances out.

Rains again last night 😞 plus scattered suggested for today. Can't do much outside, so wet. Feed chores are done, DW going, dryer almost done & 2nd load waiting for it's turn. Not $$ saving but, it's been too wet for line dry all week. I'm going to work, might as well.

I'd take 81 for a high any day, lol!

it was really nice. today not so... hotter, much more humid and not too much of a breeze while i had to get the grass mowed. glad that's now done! :)

90sF will be back for a few days and then another break for a few more and perhaps some rains again. we'll see...

Wednesday FB went to the hospital to visit someone we know. As you all know I don't get out much. It's been a long time since I've been to the city. What in the world has happened to people? They drive like clowns in a clown cars at a circus. Some even look like clowns also. Do people realize there are lanes that you need to stay in unless you turn on your blinker to let everone know your fixin' to change lanes? How about getting in the right lane to turn off right instead of the far left lane to turn right? I mean aren't these like basic driving things to know anymore? and what's with the cars with no doors? Did they have to sell their doors for scrap to pay bills or what?

I won't go into details but I got flipped the bird and yelled at while going 70 MPH down the highway by a crazy people. FB or I don't even know why either... just avoid eye contact, ignore them and keep on driving, this crazy person will speed ahead and be gone soon enough.

Anyways I was so glad to be back on narrow unlined country roads, were atleast people have the decency to get over so we can get by eachother and wave hello at the same time :)

They use Turn Signals where you are?

The tweekers and car thieves are also abundant here and they drive insane. We sometimes have to drive Canyon Road which is Puyallup/Tacoma. Lots of big rigs who speed and run red lights. Always accidents there.

We stay away from Seattle as much as possible. Too much traffic. Tacoma is only 11 miles away.

Oh, yeah!! 😳😡 Same crap here....and speeding. I'm going 65 in a 60 and they barrel by me. I do as little city driving as possible. It's always a white knuckle trip. Some of these yahoos even wander onto our "narrow, windy" country roads -- especially with motorcycles.

And I hate to tell you but, the crazies are in our stores. They don't frequent the feed stores much. That seems to be visited by only the working, pay for stuff, use manners, control your kids & dogs kinda people. Life is pretty strange in this generation.

Our steers live weight was between 1050 to 1150 lbs. This is at 23 months old and coming up to weight naturally plus a little commodity feed every day. I tried a with 45 day commodity plus corn finish as it seemed to work well in the past. I could have added some feed tubs to the finishing yard, to chemically induce more weight. But I don't ever plan on doing that. Live cattle market slaughter weight is 1050 to 1200 lbs. So I'm really happy that ours fall comfortably within market parameters.

I wanted to try 23 months old with a 45 day finish. Now I know 23 months is pretty good for our breed. I could go all the way to to 29 or 30 months if needed, before BSE rules kick in, which I want to avoid. I also could increase the number of finishing days for more weight also. But fat cover and marbling will tell me more and if I need to adjust the finishing days or not.

You can read more about live cattle here. Near the bottom is a good summary

Sounds great....and also sounds like he took "the" ride. So, allowing for hang time to age, cut & wrap -- I'm thinking we could road trip to a Labor Day steak cookout!!! 😁 :old:thumbsup
