Happy Mother's Day to all.

It is sunny but we MIGHT get lucky and get some rain/showers tonight. We are needing rain very very badly. The sun and nice days in the 60-70's is good for getting some things done... BUT.... we are short on pasture that should be up to our knees, hay is so short and already heading out... Planting corn is at a standstill for many because there is not enough ground moisture to sustain it if a shower of 1/4 - 1/2 inch gets it to germinate.. it will die because there is nothing for the tender roots to reach down to.

We are in severe to extreme drought through most of the state, NC, SC, GA, and FL... there have been some rains in the last few days, but we need more than a downpour going through. We need some slow soaking rain.
Put in some T-posts and other electric fence posts to section off some pasture to try to save some for future grazing. Ground is like concrete pounding in the posts. Pasture is understocked and want the animals to not be picking and choosing everywhere, but graze portions more uniformly and then can move them. Having trouble getting the fence to be fully charged since the ground(dirt) is so dry, the "ground" for the fence charger is not making good contact.

Clouds and some 20 drop showers is about all we get when they call for rain... Had .15 inch 3 days ago... needed 2-3 inches just to get things wet.

Monday -- back to work day. It'll be the shortest work day this week. Tue-Thur will be 10 hr each + drive time. But that gives me Fri-Sun at home to do planned fence changes. Yesterday I mowed the strips for a new section of electric to move animals into another fenced grazing area via a different route. Then I will be able to work some then vacant sections without their "help". 😆 Musical chairs!

Weather should be good next 10 days. Unfortunately without rain, which we need. It's getting way too dry.

I'm flying to San Jose CA tomorrow to be with my Mother. She fell in her assisted living apt, wasn't found for quite some time, and has been in the hospital since it happened Thursday. I'm going down to visit and to help move some of her belongings to Memory Care, for when she is able to get back to the facility. Heck of a way for her to spend her Mother's Day. She's 95.5 years old.
