Hey FC, have you done a Google search for fruit, or veggie colon cleanse. There is lots of recipes out there. No pills to buy. Just fruit and veggies. Try "Bananna colon cleanse recipe" that produced some pretty tasty results.

Free has a really good healthy version of a cleanse. Basicaly eat load of veg, drink loads of water, slowly add back healthy fats ( meat, dairy etc) eat clean unprocessed food. No coffee no alcohol, no proccessed anything from a box, jar, can etc.

I am sure she will come a long and give some advice.

Don't buy into some expensive *cleanse* product.....those are only designed to make someone else money. Add kefir and plenty of veg to your diet and you won't ever feel the need to cleanse! Trust me, I feel pretty clean, daily :gig

I think these "cleanses" are a waste of time.

I don't like most cleanses on the market or most cleansing programs, I think they are unhealthy. If you are going to fast, as in a juice fast, you need to NOT WORK during this time....that is not possible for most of us! If you do anything physical, your body will metabolize it's own tissues for fuel if you are not feeding it!

So this is what I recommend, as Dace said:

Eat as many LGI veggies a you can possibly eat, try for half raw, half cooked. All raw is better, but not everyone can tolerate that all at once, especially if the diet has been poor.

No caffeine, nothing processed, nothing "diet," no sweeteners of any kind except stevia (pure, not Truvia), no smoking or alcohol, no grains or starchy veggies, and limit the fruit somewhat. At least, make sure the veggies outnumber the fruit servings by maybe 4:1 or more.

No fats of any kind for the first day or so, up to three days. At the first sign of weakness, start adding very high-quality fats and proteins back in...."good" eggs, butter, lard, poultry, fish....in small amounts.

Some start their day with the juice of half a fresh lemon in hot water, with or without a little stevia. Do not microwave the lemon. If you use the microwave to heat drinks, heat the water, then add the lemon.

Try to stay on this for at LEAST a week. Up to six weeks for someone with a serious health concern, especially one that involves inflammation (cardiovascular disease, diabetes I or II, asthma, fibromyalgia, etc.) as this way of eating is very anti-inflammatory.

The biggest mistake people make with this is not eating enough. You need to make it your job to eat, eat, eat. The second mistake most people make is staying fat-free. This is very dangerous. Just stay fat-free for a short time to rest the gallbladder.

Stock up on tp in advance! You'll be so "clean" you will squeak!

Did I remember everything, Dace?

I was a colonic therapist in my younger days and I worked for a couple of doctors who did alternative therapies in the 70's. After looking a hundreds of xrays as well as other lab reports I can testify that taking care of ones intestines is necessary for a long and healthy life.

Can't begin to say how many times People passed parasites and long long mucous ropes during a colonic as well as other dastardly things, and god only knows how they had it packed away in there! They had no clue except that they knew things were not right.

We were able to heal some pretty serious disease though oxygen colonic theapy, diet and abdominal sound wave therapy. It changed peoples lives.

I can tell you this... a high fiber raw diet is not for everyone and for some can be dangerous as they cannot process all that fiber and the inside of the bowels is inflammed already, with strictures and spastic areas.

The colon is very complex and so also are the dieases that it may contain.

Cleansing is a multifactor process and just what each individual needs is hard to determine if they are not pretty healthy to start with.

Is there polyps? is ther diverticuli, or worse diverticulitis?
is there prolapse transverse colon? spastic issues?

For the majority a raw food diet is ok.. but if you have been having digestive issues or bowel issues more comprehensive and different therapy may required.

For a generally healthy person who has generally healthy digestion and bowel movements you can do the raw food thing...
but if not go slowly and if things arn't working so well don't proceed. You need a different path.

If there are health issues in this area a doctor needs to be consulted not so much for treatment but for diagnostics.

Diverticulitis is an infection in the diveticuli and is a serious conditon that needs to be treated. You can use antibiotics like cipro but I prefer MMS due to the significant side effects of such drugs.

If you are constipated a bowel cleanse may not be the answer as the cause of constipation generally lies up north of the bowel with issues with gallbladder function of digestive enzyme processes.

Polyps can be controlled with mega vitamin therapy, even if it is an inherited tendency as some polyp issues are. Remember, polyps can be a precacnerous condition, as well as diverticuli. You don't want them around.

as people get older polyps and diverticuli tend to increas and with polyps that can be in your 40's. Most people in their 50s to 60's start getiing diverticuli.

These are caused in my opinion by microbial invasion of the bowel wall due to impaired immune function. The cure is not a colon cleanse but boosting digestive enzyme processes and a product like grapefruit seed extract or MMS to bring the pathogen load down. People who never had a day of constipation in their life can have this issue. More nutrients and antioxidants over a long term is what is required either by boosting the veggie intake or supplements but certainly by reducing the trash food.

If your over 50 you should have a colonoscopy for a base line and to see where you are at. Once you hit medicare age medicare will pay for it.

If the desire to do a colon cleanse is just for slow bowels then senna leaf will move things out during your cleanse.

I am not necessarily recommending this product but it makes sense to see what the pros use if you are interested in using herbs.

For myself I know the MMS I use cleanses the tissues of the intestine from the inside out. One other product I highly recommend is Homozone. I use daily folate, quercitin, tumeric with my colon in mind.

I just found this excellent list of herbs that can be used for various purposes related to the gut and I can confirm the use stated for each herb from this webside. I highlighted the herbs that I have experience of use for their great benefits.

The most popular colon cleansing herbs for the removal of parasites are listed below.

Wormwood Powder is a powerful parasite killer for herbal colon cleansing.

Pau D'Arco Powder is a serious antifungal from South America. Inspite of growing in the rain forest the tree does not grow any mold or fungi. It has been said that the active ingredient in pau d'arco is as potent as ketoconazole.

Pumpkin Seed is antiparasitic and therefore a very good colon cleansing herb for parasite elimination.

Clove Bud Powder is an antiseptic and good for asthma, colic, diarrhea, gout, indigestion, measles, intestinal parasites, tuberculosis, colds and flu.

Male Fern Root Powder is used for worms and problems with the lymph system. It is poisonous in very large doses but most commercial parasites cleanses do not have enough to make you sick.

Grapefruit Seed Extract is antimicrobial and is useful in intestinal infections.
False Unicorn Root has been used for centuries as a fertility aid, but it also kills and expells worms quite nicely.

Myrrh Gum invigorates the blood and reduces pain and swelling caused by blood stasis. Do not use if pregnant or if you have kidney disease.

Garlic Bulb Powder protects the internal organs against infection and blockage. It also aids in the digestion of fats and oils. Check with your doctor about ingesting large amounts if you are on blood thinners.
Hyssop Leaf has a tonic effect on the digestive, urinary, nervous and bronchial systems.

Turmeric Root strongly reduces inflammation and mucus in all parts of the body. It protects the liver, lungs, intestines, and helps prevent and treat cancer. Do not use extracts or oil in high doses. Curcumin standardized to a 95% extract is best.

Gentian Root relieves intestinal inflammation and is an anti-viral.

Peppermint Leaf Powder soothes the intestines through a mild anesthetic action.

Fenugreek Seed Powder is mainly used as digestive aid. It is ideal for treating sinus, lung congestion, reduces inflammation and fights infection.

Elecampane Plant has antiseptic properties.

Prickley Ash Bark Powder stimulates the circulation, lymphatic system, mucous membranes and breaks up blood congestion. It should be avoided if pregnant or on blood thinning medications.

Yellow Dock Powder reduces heat and swelling, softens hardened tissue, nourishes the blood, cleanses the liver and reduces pain.

Many products for herbal colon cleansing also use a tea and these are the most common herbs.

Senna leaf is an herbal laxative that could possibly interfere with heart medications.

Chamomile Flower is used for sore stomachs, irritable bowel syndrome, and as a gentle sleep aid.

Peppermint Leaf soothes the intestines through a mild anesthetic action.

Fennel Seed strengthens digestion, freshens the breath, reduces gas, and relieves lower abdominal pain.

Cinnamon Bark stimulates digestion, helps circulation, is a diuretic, is a potent antifungal and reduces inflammation.

Ginger Root is good for the blood regulation, digestion, and stimulates the immune system.

Milk Thistle Seed is good for the liver and promotes it's cleansing.

Passion Fruit is a very good parisite killer.

Licorice root detoxifies poisons from the blood and liver, reduces inflammation and pain, and heals the lungs and digestive tract.

Rhubarb stem is a laxative that drains inflammation from the liver, kidneys, and large intestine. Do not use if pregnant or if you have gout. This should not be used in large doses but is very safe in smaller doses when mixed with other herbs for colon cleansing.

Barberry is very good for the spleen, which is the organ that filters the blood.
