Colowyo - grudgingly settling in :P

I know how that seed thing goes. First I said I was only planting things I had, then I was only ordering things I didn't have, now I have about 25 new packets of seeds and need more space to plant them. :barnie

g
well, we have eight acres we can plant on so I don't see that being a problem anytime soon :D I might just see if I can scrounge a bunch of old tires in decent condition and use those as planters :D and compost collectors, and cold frames, and such :D

8 acres??? I am so jealous. I am thinking about throwing seeds into the field behind my house. Maybe I could figure out a way to water them. :idunno The problem is in summer they come in a mow for weed control.

Bummer!!

You could SO guerrilla garden that space, Tanks.

I would plant cheap seeds the first years... just to be safe, but if you keep the space weeded down, why would they be mowing? Set up some tall tomato cages around the perimeter to act as sentry and weed whack everything WELL around your new space.

Hmmm. Maybe we are a bad influence sometimes. :idunno :lau

Well it's about two acres and it run down hill to the west. It is slightly graded but not really.

We have big fire danger here so the county/city requires that they mow the weeds. Now I suppose if I did it for them and kept a neat area around the garden that would work.. But last time I checked I was having a hard time keep up with what I have. If it was flat I could ride my John Deer lawn mower on it. But its steep and that scares me to death.

I kinda like how the nomad Indians used to walk the river banks and cast their seeds. Then on their way back by later in the year harvest veggies. ;) More my style.

Besides I think it's more suited for a grazing cow!!! :gig

:D

Nice to see you back!

Sorry about your step dad....how is your mom doing with it?

I agree with the funeral thing....I have made it known to everyone in my family that will listen that I want anything that can be donated to be donated and then cremate what's left and scatter my ashes somewhere pretty. Why do I want to take up space when I'm gone?

Nice to be back :)

I wanted to be cremated, then decided that that was money not well spent so I figure they can donate my body to science, or magic, or whomever wants it and use the money to have a party :D

We are donating hubby to science for sure. The science nerds will have a field day on his crazy-assed brain!

I am glad you got a few chickens out of that hatch at least.

Did you want a friend or two for zippy? Found a local guy who is hatching out quail. He is hatching coturnix as well as some buttons. His first hatch should be done late next week. Let me know if you are interested. I have heat packs and could provide transportation.

Oh god that would be great! However, I've been thinking I need to probably put the quail on hold until we have a better setup. Buttons need to be warm all the time, and we do not have the inside space for them right now. So, I'm trying to find someone who might take Zippy. Do you think he might want a female? :) At this point I'm willing to just let him have her :D

I need to go investigate the quail thread on BYC but do Coturnix do ok outside or do they need to be inside as well?

I donated my brain already. I didn't sleep for a week, assuming they'd come early for it. But they didn't.

It goes to an autism research group :D
