Complete Chicken Nutrition, No Buying Feed - How?

I've been thinking of growing some mangels next year to feed to all the animals. I've been trying to find more info on feeding them to horses and goats. I know you can do it, people used to do it years ago, but I'm not having much luck finding the info I need. For chickens, you can just hang one where they can start pecking at it.
