Have you thought of maybe having a responsible caretaker live in your home while you are gone?

There are many singles or couples who would love a year's free rent to upkeep, pay utilities and grow a garden. If you are only in for 2 wks for the summer, you could stay with family, check up on your caretaker and the job he/she is doing, take some of the garden produce home with you and not have to worry about a vacant property.

There are whole publications devoted to housesitters and people who do this for a living. I've often thought it would be kind of cool to become one of those folks who are living on their retirement but travel to different parts of the world as professional housesitters for these big, luxurious homes or quaint cottages in the country.

When I moved here I would have loved to have had a place to caretake, even for just a year. Gives a person a chance to save money and see if they like the area. It would have to be someone pretty trustworthy, though.
