Here's a good one for you.... you actually CAN incubate the eggs for a couple weeks after your roosters are gone. The hens have some way that they 'store' sperm for awhile. I lost a beautiful Lavender roo a while back so for the next two - three weeks I collected every egg those hens laid and had a great hatch! Crazy, huh?

I've heard it can be up to a month.

I've heard that too Deb. In my case I only gathered eggs for three weeks. Every ten days I set a new batch in the incubator so that none of the eggs were old. The eggs that the hens laid three weeks after the roo died were waning in their fertility but I still got about 50% fertility from those. It's quite possible that eggs laid even later would have hatched also.

Wow!!! I didn't know that! I thought it was a straight one time shot! So its like with mollies and platies then? (They can hold sperm up to 3 months I believe)

So not much been going on around here, dad doing pretty good, he's moving around enough to get to the computer and have a smoke outside again.
Halloweens tomorrow!!! I haven't even got any of my pimkins carved and my decorations are few and sad :'(
I hope everyone has a safe and fun day tomorrow! Have a good fall harvest and stay safe from the ghoulies and demons!!! Anyone with munchkies, be sure to check their candie, for safety reason of ncourse and to devour half the bag ;p

So finally did some pumpkin carving!!
Lol every year I forget how much work it can be lol
Got my apples to please the passing spirits if they want them and 12 bags of assorted candy mixed together as well as my work costume ready for work!
