I don't know. I have no idea why the regular milk recipe works! So, not sure it would translate.

darn, I really like almond milk I don't usually eat/drink dairy but I do like yogurt now and then, I usually get the organic plain and just drain it, I looooove greek yogurt and draining it makes it taste very similar and its cheaper than greek. Thanks

Sorry, I just had to say that everytime I read the title I think it says Crack Pot yogurt. I do believe that is what my dh thinks I am and would call my yogurt behind my back. :p

Omg, I'm so going to try this! If it goes well, I will strain it and try to imitate my favorite kind of yogurt. The regular thinner stuff to me, is something to add to other stuff, not eat alone. Maybe too many years of eating it for lunch in school? But I love Greek Gods Honey yogurt. It doesn't have too many scary ingredients, just milk, cream, sugar, honey, pectin, and "active cultures." But it is expensive. Has anyone strained their yogurt into something quite a bit thicker?

I just finished my first batch of crock pot yogurt. It turned out great! Once it was done in the crock pot I strained it for about two hours through a dish towel to make it thicker (I prefer something closer to Greek-style yogurt), which made part of it thick while part was still runny. After mixing it, it turned out with a good consistency throughout. A lot of liquid strained out, leaving me with only about 3.5 cups of yogurt from a half gallon of milk (8 cups) and a half cup of starter (some yogurt was also lost during transfer, so it was probably about 4 cups really). It's still cheaper than buying my favorite yogurt.
