While talking with an acquaintance about buying some bulk wheat, the subject of corn came up. She told me that her family buys sacks of deer corn and clean it (pick any cob or foreign material out of it) and grind it for corn meal. It just seems as though the quality control of the corn may be a bit lacking, but it would definitely be a lot cheaper than buying bulk and having it delivered. Has anyone here done this, and if you have, what was the quality?

I grind corn from the feed sack for making the occasional corn bread. It is easy to pick through and the corn bread is delicious. I feed whole corn to my pigs and poultry as part of their diet, so always have some in a barrel in the barn. The kernels are big and it is easy to fill a quart jar to keep in the kitchen for those sudden baking urges.

The corn I get around here (for the chickens) usually has too many cracked kernels for me to trust it for our use, but the seed wheat (UNtreated) grinds up great and is very clean!

I think it all depends on your sources.
