The Wife and I are canning pickles this afternoon. We read someplace that if you want to make them crunchier, to soak them in ice water for 4 hours before canning them.
Would they be soaked whole or sliced?
TIA.

I would say sliced, giving good penetration of the ice. I could be wrong...the reason I lean in that direction is because the recipe I use for sliced bread & butter pickles says to slice them, then soak them on ice for 1 1/2 hours.

Of course, this probably didn't help you a bit.... :p

Well......they are on ice right now.....unsliced. I figured this would just be a part of the washing/cleaning process. :D
