I am doing some research into what breed i should get for my next farm dog.
My husband has a German Shepherd, and although I love that dog, I fell in love with the Swissies about 8 years ago and really would like to get one. But I wonder if a Swissy will have the traits that i am looking for in a farm dog.
Here are my requirements:
- wants to be with me
- trainable
- not aggressive to my animals
- not a roamer, will stay around without constant, vigilant attention.
- large enough to make anyone think twice about messing with our place.
Our G.S.D. is about 110 pounds and he stays around the place without being constantly called back. He has the really deep bark that makes people pause. The first time he barked at something with his big dog bark, he came running to me and hid behind me - looking around for that "scary dog". The breeder we bought him from is no longer breeding dogs.
