I usually make buttermilk (from cultured buttermilk starter, first store bought then later by using some from previous batch to start my next batch in milk, sometimes rawmilk sometimes store bought)

anyhow I usually just sniff the milk and if it smell buttery, I figure it's good

I was told that you shouldn' t use buttermilk that is more than 2 weeks old to make a new batch, and I usually manage that...however this week I was about 2.5 weeks, I made the bmilk yesterday it looks fine,

my problem, I have a cold and can't smell it

so any pros out there know if old home made buttermilk just gets to sour stored in the fridge, or if it goes bad?

thanks for your help

Cultured milk products, especially made with raw milk, keep a long time in the fridge....as long as no one in the household sips from the container! :p So the sniff test works....is there another sniffer in your house that you trust? If it is bad, it is usually unmistakable. OK, always unmistakable.
