Typhus outbreak in los angeles CA & Galveston TX - seriously?

I never heard of such a thing, I thought typhus was something from history. But not one but two outbreak in the USA??? Crazy...

I found it interesting that the one woman refuses to go back to work until all the carpets are replaced... not just cleaned and de-flea'd. No concern about all the employees who will be doing the work, hence being exposed at a far higher rate than she was, either.
