yesterday 3ish ,
The chicks have been running loose all day since I put the broody hens in jail.
I fixed the little chick ladder I had made in 22 and put it in the coop.

I came in and started watching Mrs Marpel Agatha Christie mystery and it was so quite out i went to check the chicks and boom--
this is what I found at 4:45

at 8pm I went out and the chicks were ready for the nest so I took away the roost ladder
[ for my own sanity- there would be chaos!!!]

and the broodies had a CAMP OUT

I think the overnight outside the coop did some good.
The one on the dog crate still has her feathers up but on as crabby
the one in the green time out pen is still pacing, but hasnt bit me today

Up half the night trying to get incubator temps stable again. Sure don't want to cook them at this stage! Old model is a manual, not a digital set 🥴. But, new lid with that feature is $145....won't help or get here for this last 6 days and may never do another load. So monitoring it and praying for best.

A hen has a phenomenal internal control!! What a job. You must appreciate the dedication and skill of temp & humidity she instinctively has. Praise God!! To go from a just laid egg to a live chick in only 21 days is an awesome achievement. Mind boggling really. A broody hen is a God given miracle worker.

Manual one that has the wafer??? The wafer is going bad... they do that.. All the local farm supply stores here local do not keep them in stock. I just ordered some from Jeffers (Or Valley vet?? ) because the incubators that DS has as well as the brooders in the "battery tower" are all wafer type. Found some on Ebay for ridiculous price of $30+... Jeffers were $10.99 or something like that.

Yep, hens are amazing...
