Facelifting carpeted "construction stairs"? (new title, old thread)

She could probably get the lumber store to cut up some laun to fit the stairs perfectly but then would need a new bullnose, its a horse apiece on the trim though. Those lumber dudes will help a lady out when sporting some cleavage far more than a black bean chocolate cake would.

Bull nose is the rounded edge on the front of each step.

No comment. :D

I know it is hard to believe, but I do know what bull nosing is. :P I just don't know how you add it to a stair covered in luan or more plywood. If I just add another sheet of pre-cut plywood can I just leave the end square...no bull nosing?

Am I in over my head? Do I need to call in a professional? Where is the giving up smilie?

I just zoomed into your stair photo and it doesn't look like there is a nose attached just kinda rounded, if you cover with a thin piece of luan or plywood you could just fill the front with putty or paintable caulk and be done with it. Or you could trim nail on a thin strip of lattice board which can even over hang the bottom so it wouldn't need cutting.

The 1/4 - 1/2" height you would add to each riser should be no problem except for the first bottom step which will be slightly higher by the added board above it - only a bull nosed inspector would cite you for that, but since the standard rise is almost global you may find that even a 1/2" difference will tip your toe, the brain is funny that way.
