I saw someone using a larger one for roosters. 
They'd just move it to an area, and let them free range. Never had to fence them in because they were used to the trailer.

Super Self-Sufficient
I think that is a great way to upcycle the old trailer. Very mobile if you keep the tires up. Just think if the water lines were still working you could hook up to a hose and use a couple self waterers.
