Fiber Arts Forum?

Around here, the best places to learn are the specialty yarn shops. They have classes and the folk who work there tend to be very knowledgeable about all things yarn :)

That's exactly how I got started knitting. I got two books from the library first, with VERY DETAILED step by step photos. Worked at it for weeks. I guess my brain doesn't work that way though. I just could NOT get it. I went down to the valley to a yarn shop and asked for help, and five minutes later I was knitting away.

I have lots of specialty fibers that probably aren't the best for clothing (much of it is acrylic or blends but BEAUTIFIL and SOFT stuff, and far too valuable not to use for SOMEthing), so I really need to find various fiber arts outlets to put them to good use.

:)

i knit. and i just got assigned to do socks.

bwahahaha.

so i'd better learn how.
Friday night-I'm getting my heel lesson!! We're having a Night of Knitting and Tea at the Vicarage. Doesn't that sound so la-di-da. We'll probably end up drinking wine and laughing our heads off and doing very little knitting. I'll have to make sure I get my heel lesson in before the wine.
I had a half day drop spindle spinning lesson last year but haven't done anything sicne. I'd like to do more of that.
I belong to Ravelry too but hardle ever remember to visit. :/

*grins* I just have to get the right sized needles. I have yarn all over. I don't know if any is sock appropriate. *shrugs*

I learned from a woman who raises llamas and spins. I was lucky enough to get my spinning wheel for free from my brother. He bought a house and it was hanging in the garage. I had it for a year before I finally took lessons. The same woman has knitting "parties" at her house every week, but it's a little too late in the evening. My daughter still needs me to help her get to sleep at night, so I'll have to wait till she's a little older.
There's also a spinner's guild here that I'm dying to join, but also meet late in the evening. :/

I can't live without Ravelry! I'm not on the forum there much at all, but I love the pattern and yarn searches!
