Hello all. I found a local add on craigs list where a woman is giving away figs from her tree. She is only asking in return for a sample of whatever it is you make. I was wondering if green figs are used for fig newton cookies? thats how she describes them "huge tender green organic figs".

I would love to go pick some up. any advice or recipes?
thanks gina

I have a fig tree that produces those types of figs. I ate them raw. I peeled the green skin back and ate the middle out of them and tossed the remaining stuff to the chickens. Other than eating them raw, I don't know what to do with them.

See if you can get some fig tree leaves, they are fun to cook with!

My mom has a little indoor fig tree that gets green figs. She just eats them all raw. She never shares. :(

Thought I'd throw that out there, just because.

Cut a little slit in the side, stuff in some cheese, wrap with bacon and roast in a 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes, drizzle with honey - delicious!!

Yep, skin on, just wash them and go! If you make your own pizza, fig, proscuitto and goat cheese is delicious that way too, just slice the figs.
