Food prices June 2021

Even with flock depopulation elsewhere in the country, egg prices have actually gone down here. Mom clued me in because they went down at the Safeway by her.

$9.29 for 5 dozen large eggs at Costco. I needed cream and eggs are right there

today a blurb in the news about lumber prices collapsing (due to lower demand from construction)...

what goes up can come down.

that said i have no idea if the prices are close to where it was before the pandemic or not.

the last time i had to get any lumber i wasn't impressed at all by the quality (nothing was straight).

Lots of knot and bark edges as well. I only needed new 2x2s for run roosts so it didn't matter but yes the quality was bad

Futures look down about a third from the COVID throes.

Sugar prices are rising fast. So far this year, its up 10.8%. I'm stocked up. How about you?

"The global cost of sugar has surged to its highest level since 2011 following concerns of underproduction rates from India, which has experienced an extreme dry spell that has threatened crops, and Thailand, which is facing a severe drought. The two countries are the largest exporters of sugar, after Brazil"

And....a TX production plant closed about a yr ago. Sugar cane harvest that bad with drought. Out of business. Use honey, molasses, maple syrup if you can afford those! Big $$$.

Coffee is another crop with problems in high production areas. These things become very apparent AFTER we've used up warehouse supplies.

Another thing that will be apparent before long -- the ugly solar farms are often on once productive farm land. Do I need more lights or food? 🤔 Put them in the desert!!!!!!

I have sugar stocked & not a big user. I've done extra jelly, etc. this yr -- hi sugar stuff. Good for several yrs. I'll stock another 10# and call it enough. Coffee... buy more! 🤣

Meats are on everyone's "sale only" list. I've frozen, canned, plus growing out livestock. It's really sad. I feel badly for those on such limited income -- oldsters mostly! -- and I have age but not feeling old. :old More veggies!! Hi protein ones, less meat needs. They can be grown at home.

When sugar prices go up, the concern isn’t so much that our 4 pound bag at the store will be expensive, it’s that every food product in the store will become more expensive. Because food manufacturers put sugar in everything!! So yeah, being stocked up on food in general is good. This inflation isn’t going away. 😒
