For those who sell at farmer's markets...

What are you selling and how much are you getting for it?

I have herbs and eggs but trying to see what else I might be able to market. Want to make the hassle of getting a sitter for Max and packing up the car worth the trip.

truest estimate is go to the supermarket and charge at least 25% more than their old cruddy produce and herbs etc....lol that is the standard for fresh foods and I base my prices off that from day one when I started these markets over 10 years ago


but of course u must check ur local prices at the market and be higher---yup I am always higer than the others because I say my stuff is the best and my customers agree and pay that small cost more for my stuff


my eggs are $4.00 per dozen now but most sell their eggs for $5 per doz here this is the one product I keep LOWER cause everyone sells eggs and my $1 cheaper on eggs gets alot of people to my tables and they buy all my other stuff

best of luck tons of money can be made at the markets I do extremely well


oh well sell

eggs from the chickens
fresh sausage and chops from our hogs
(I have a sign saying they can buy live animals also)
all kinds of produce from the fields--so much produce it is nuts lol
handmade goat milk soaps (I keep pics of the goats on the table customers love that)
handmade goat milk lotions and thick cream

basic sales are well over $1000 per weekend

Not a lot of duck egg sellers around here so I have free reign on that. I haven't seen quail eggs for sale either.

My fresh herbs beat the pants off that pathetic stuff in the store.

Later in the year I will have apples, grapes, maters and beans, its just right now that I don't have a lot of variety.

Anyone ever try selling sprouting kits? I have a lot of daikon radish seeds. Way too many to plant in the next couple of years. I also have plenty of jars. I was thinking I could put together a kit with the narrow mouth jars I don't want and the extra daikon seeds. Hummmmm.

What would I charge for something like that? think think think

Sprouting kits run from 20-40 bucks each!!

I have seen those silly things. I think they have jar kits at Vitamin Cottage. When I go on my next dairy run I will see what they are going for.

My neighbor makes goats milk soap but what really sells for her is her goats milk fudge. That really sells!

and then she harvests wild dandilion flower heads from her organic lawn and makes dandilion jam...that has sold too.

She also sells quite a bit of our famous liquid laundry soap by the gallon.... $5 ... of course we all know it costs pennies to make.

I didn't plant a market garden per se because I was going to sell eggs, but the market changed policy on me so now instead of selling eggs I have a sign for
Rent-A-Hen $6/mo
We do all the work, you get all the eggs!
1/2 dozen per week per hen

And, I've been the only one until last weekend, it's early still in the season, that had anything to sell.

I bagged up mixed lettuces & baby spinaches & sold 4 oz Single Serve Salad bags for $1.50 a bag

As soon as I got market opening dates back in march I planted two rows of stringless green beans for the early days. I'll be selling my last couple of pounds this week and I sell them for $2/lb

I also threw in an extra row of cukes... which I'm selling 3 for $1... they are smallish.. bigger than a gherkin but smaller than a typical whole dill pickle.. like the kind you buy in HUGE jars.

The tiny cukes are 6 for $1.. gherkin size

I'm sell extra sweet rainbow baby carrots for $.25/each.. the red ones are most popular

I have a slew of herbs.. .I sell at about the same price as the store I guess.. but differently.
I sell a small jewelry bag fro $.50

Soon I'll be bundling tomatoes, peppers, garlic, onions & herbs into "Sauce Baskets" with a couple of different varieties

I also planted Jelly Bean tomatoes for market and for us... and have a SLEW of other things I'll be taking a few of to market each week.

I'm selling squash blossoms for $.25 each

I sell started broccoli sprouts for $1 a bowl.. the bowl is the small "paper" plate type bowl, dixie brand maybe? with a napkin and sprouted seeds on it. I bag them in clear plastic loaf bags before I leave and people can continue sprouting as they desire
Last week someone bought one and said she would plant it.

Alot of Farmers Market stands also have hand made crafts or objects for sale along with the produce.

Do you do any crafts.

Sell potted plants. Houseplants and garden vegi/flower starts.
