Here is an alternative to traditional medicine. Living where there are no doctors we have to use what we have. All I can say is it works for us. With this flu thing going round you might want to consider this for a backup plan.

Legend has it these thieves were robbing the home of people who died during the Black Plague. When they were caught the judge asked them how they kept from getting sick from the plague. They wouldn't tell so the judge gave them a choice talk or hang. They decided talking was the better part of valor. Thier secret:

Four Thieves Vinegar
Use equal parts of the following herbs:
Wormwood
Sage
Rosemary
Thyme
lemon balm
Hyssop
Shredded horseradish root
Peppermint
A few cloves of garlic
Chopped onion
Mix equal amounts of everything in a glass jar, cover with organic, un-pasteurized apple cider vinegar. Leave at room temperature in a cool place for about six weeks then strain.

Take a tablespoon of the liquid a day. Four Thieves is anti-viral and anti-bacterial so it can be used to clean and disinfect.

You can get wormwood herb or oils at any herbologist or spiritual store that sells herbs. You could probably find it on ebay as I know many of the Wiccan and Pagan sites sell herbs there.

Here's a link to a place that sells it in an essential oil variety
http://www.secretofthieves.com/

There are other places to get it if you look around.

Since the Black Plague was a bacteria infection I would not trust
if to deal with a virus. You could try it but I would not rely on it.

Here's a place with a better price and they claim is is for flu also:

I know some massage therapists who use it on the soles of their feet.
They say thats the best way to get it into the body. The thieves used a sachet of it hung around their neck.

A vinegar sounds like great idea.

The palms of the hands and soles of the feet are the areas that take in substances the most quickly, especially oils. Essential oils are detectable in the bloodstream within minutes if applied this way. This is why I am so careful as to what I get on my hands and what I use for oils in my practice, only the purest, cold-pressed and food grade. No Biotone chemical soup for me.

To illustrate the absorbing quality of palm and sole skin, what gets pruney after swimming or bathing? Because those areas absorb so much water.

Another reason to make your own hand lotion, and not use petroleum-based products on your hands or feet especially.

You can put the chopped herb into this oil and let it leach into the vinegar but the oil is poisonous unless you're absolutely sure of what you're doing, i.e. an herbologist or naturopath or other trained person.

If it were me I wouldn't trust commercial products I would buy, gather, or raise the raw material and make it myself. You can get most of the stuff from you grocery store. We buy some of our ingredients from Frontier Spice. You can also check seed catalogs and raise a lot of the ingredients yourself.

Can you explain why this oil would be poisonous?

and here's the formula for the four thieves oil-it's a little easier to deal with because you don't have to drink it, you just rub a little on your belly and the soles of your feet. Much easier to get little ones to take it. It's also good to put on your mask or put a little under your nose to kill any germs:

Clove oil (syzgium aromaticum) 200 drops or 1/2 ounce.

Lemon oil (Citrus limon) 175 drops

Cinnamon Bark oil (Cinnamoomum verum) 100 drops

Eucalyptus oil ( Eucalyptus radiata) 75 drops

Rosemary oil (Rosimarinus officinalis ) 50 drops

Free, woodworm is very easy to grow, comes back each year, its a great antiviral and is good for deworming. My patch from last year is already getting pretty big.
