Dontcha just hate it when that happens?

I just had my dessert. Two of those little 'sweetie' tangerines, drizzled with cajeta (caramel) with a tiny bit of dark chocolate grated on top. I can't even begin to explain how delicious that is (was).
 
Yep, I hate it, but I'm waiting, cause I don't give up THAT easy :lau I am going back for more here shortly :P
 
My grandmother (the one with the squash cake recipe) use to make a spagetti sauce, using egg as the meat. I think she'd mainly cook it on Fridays (Catholics). I haven't eaten it in years, but it was very good. Its getting near Lent......although we follow the Friday rule all year, so I think I'll go ahead and give it a go. Thanks for the suggestion. Its been a while.
 
Guilty. But she was a very humble person. Didn't go around bragging on herself. She was the head cook at our local hospital in the years when you didn't joke about hospital food.......well they didn't down here anyway. She made the food taste good, without the extra fat or salt. She is the reason I made top score in my diet therapy classes in nursing school. Her gumbo was to die for. Some of her descendants know her gumbo tricks. Its not a big secret.....just brown everything first and drain all the fat.....the browning gives flavor.
We use to have a drive in theater in town and there was a chili made there that was a local favorite. It still is, although the drive in has been shut down since 1980. Well, the lady that gets credit for the recipe was Juanita Callais, who was my aunt by marriage....she was married to my great-uncle. My sister lost her copy of the recipe and she called Aunt TT, who then told her,"Well, Tracy, I'll be glad to give you the recipe, but what I can't understand is why you are calling me, when its your grandmother who gave me my recipe in the first place." And we all freaked out. Like.......Mawmaw was the real cook behind the drive in chili recipe??? Shut Up!
She taught me so much and gave of herself so often. Can't tell you how much of my thought processes are consumed with "What would Mawmaw have done?".
 
Gonna use it to take the girls in my office out to lunch! Can't think of any better use for it - unless I bought a weeks' worth of chicken food, or some more canning jars, lol. Nah, we're going out!
 
Rain, rain, go away.... Just for a little while, cuz I know in July I'll be wishing for more.

I've been browsing the online seed catalogs this morning. I can't help it - I'm addicted. Why do I need any more seeds - I dunno? I always try to experiment with something new every year. This years' experiment - a new 'spicy basil' that grows in a ball shape - it's supposed to make a really cute container plant - and gold turnips. Not sure how they'll do, but I'm gonna give 'em a try.

I try to stay away from most hybrids but there is one that I just love. It's Argonaut squash and it's the most amazing thing ever! A couple years ago I had squash that were over 3 feet long and were 30+ lbs. I loved that they were great keepers without any special handling. Just kept them cool and dry and they lasted for months. I skipped them last year, but this year I've just gotta have 'em back. They do take up lots and lots of room though.

It looks like Lucy-Goosey is setting, finally! I didn't think she was ever gonna start. Usually she starts laying in February and brooding in March. Last year, because she was a lone goose and had no mate, I ordered eggs off of ebay. One of those hatched and luckily was a male, so he's her new mate.

I've got some of her eggs in the incubator and it looks like we've got development - woo hoo! If they keep going, I'll have to find a way to get past Lucky, the gander, and slip them back under her when it gets closer to hatch time. He's...ahem....very protective!

If this rain keeps up I might even need to do a little preventative nest protection. The nest is okay for now, but there is more rain predicted starting Sunday and they're talking about 3 - 4 inches...ugh. I know waterfowl eggs need more humidity but I don't think flooding would be beneficial, lol. I may need to try to slip some waterproof material under the nest or find a way to raise it somehow... while trying not to get attacked by Lucky...sigh...

I hope I can find time and decent weather this weekend to build a chicken tractor - thanks for the idea WBF! I'll probably make mine a little smaller so I can move it easily by myself. I'm thinking 4 x 8. I'm not sure I can handle moving an 8 x8. I might just have to make two of the smaller ones. Something to think about anyway.

Hope everyone is warm and dry. Is it Friday yet???
