Dog pen is holding 'em. In fact, they actually seem to like their space. I let 'em out for a while this evening while I was sittin' on the back porch shelling peas. They played awhile, ran around a while, sat besideme and begged for peas for awhile, and then were perfectly content to go back to their own place. Keeping fingers crossed that this works out.
Picked up my new truck from the shop. I got this truck on Wednesday and put it in the shop on Friday. Finally got it back today and guess what? They "found" a crack in my dash. Now, I am here to say that that crack was NOT on my truck when I dropped it off on Friday. Soooo, the service manager comes out and says that he 'noticed' the crack when he was driving my truck. What? It magically just appeared there? I told him repeatedly that the crack was NOT there when I got the truck on Wednesday and it was NOT there when I dropped it off for them to fix a couple minor things on Friday - so I guess it just magically appeared while sitting in their shop over the weekend? What the .....?
Anyway - they're graciously going to fix it for me - no charge of course. Geeze louise - between the dog and the truck......
Anybody have experience with powdery mildew? I think I've got it on some squash and cucumbers. I saw an article that says you can use baking soda in water as a spray. I've gotta try something cuz I've worked too hard to lose things before they even get a good start.
Gettin' close on the baby watch. I've got 5 does pulled up and starting the first week of May we should start dropping babies. I'm excited! A tiny bit worried about the pygmy - she's HUGE! I need to check my calendar to be sure of my dates - cuz she's got a nice bag, ligaments are soft and she is miserable. I haven't had triplets in a while....maybe this year!

No experience with powdery mildew

BABY GOATS!!!! You better get pics AS SOON AS they hit the ground!!! I miss this time of year without my goats on the farm! I'll have more again before long though

I went back to my calendar and re-counted days from goat breedings. Pygmies are pretty well set on 145 days, so I'll start watching a day or two early. The 3rd of May is 145 days from the first breeding. I have 4 does that should kid within a day or so of each other - or if I'm lucky - the same day! The 5th doe is due about two weeks later and one more that's not due until August. I don't like 'em due in that much heat - but this year - who knows? It might be cold again the way this crazy weather is this year, lol.
Okay - the continuing saga of the truck. I had put it in for service because a couple of switches on the power seats weren't working. So, guess what I found out from the service center? The heated/cooled seats in the truck were after-market - not original. That means that they are NOT covered under warranty. Gee whiz, don'tcha think that someone shoulda mentioned that? They did go ahead and fix them and charged the work to the Used Car department - not GMC warranty.
On top of that they 'found' that huge crack in the dash. Soooooo, today I was walking across the parking lot and looked under the truck when I saw big, thick, long strands of grass that were wound around the rear axle. WHAT? That wasn't there before I took it in for service either - just like the dash was not cracked when i took it in. Sure does seem like somebody took that truck for a heck of a 'test drive' while it was in for service.
So, I called up the sales manager and voiced my displeasure in a very distinct manner and as of tonight...............drum roll please................I took that sucker back and told 'em where to shove it!!! (okay, it wasn't that dramatic, but....)
I got my SUV back, got my 5K back and did NOT look in my rearview mirror on the way out.
I'm really thankful that they didn't give me any grief over bringing it back, but it's kind of amazing how just mentioning the Deceptive Trade Practices Act gets results. Guess all that schoolin' I took to get a Paralegal degree paid off! (even though I don't work as a paralegal)

I hate to buy a vehicle from any type of dealer. DH worked for a dealer a long time back and quit after a year because he couldn't stand himself. The things he had to tell people. Glad you got out of it intact!

Well, you know they wanted me to look at some more vehicles while I was there... uhhhhhh.... no thanks! DH is still on a truck kick - but I'm gonna have to wait a little while to get this nasty taste outta my mouth!
I am looking forward to baby goats - and MILK!!! I can't wait to have fresh milk again, and cheese, and kefir... and if I milk all those stinkin' goats I should have enough milk to even try to learn to make soap. (if I can find time)

Snapshot - I hear ya on that one. My days are about 36 hours long now... I don't know how I'm gonna work milking 4 or 6 goats into the rotation - but I will! Sleep - who needs it? I guess I can give up that 15 minutes or so that I sit on my butt watching the news before bedtime, lol.
It's cold-ish again here. How the heck is the garden gonna figure this weather stuff out. I've got something that looks like powdery mildew on my squash and cukes. And the okra - the stuff that you can't kill around here is looking mighty puny. Now, mind you, I didn't plant this okra - it's volunteering from last year so if it croaks I can still plant some more. In fact, that's probably what's wrong with it - okra likes it H.O.T and dry and all we've had lately is cool and damp. That's probably the reason for the powdery mildew too... sheesh!
The chicken with the broken leg is healing. She's finally putting weight on it and moving around and, bonus, she's gotten incredibly tame. I'm sure she doesn't realize that the broken leg actually saved her life. Before she moved inside to recover from her leg she was living with all the little chicksters that the dog killed. Had she been outside with them - her fate would have been the same as theirs.... She would have become a victim of doggie disaster!

Went to feed the crippled chickster and she practically flew out of the dog crate that has been her temporary home. Looked like a sign to me! So,,,, now she's outside in her own pen. She's taking weight on it and walking with hardly a limp at all. For weeks she wouldn't even put it down, and now she's practically 100%.
Not too much else going on except for milk-stand training. I've been bringing the does in one by one and getting 'em on the stand for a snack. All are doing well. I was most worried about Spooky - she doesn't like me too much since the breeding episode. She got really tired of me holding on to her so the little pygmy buck could climb up his ramp and get the job done. She's especially upset when I touch her rear end- her tail in particular. So, I'm being more than patient with her. It took a couple days for her to get all the way on the stand, but she did. The first day I didn't close the neck stanchion on her - just let her stand up there and enjoy a quick feed. The next day I closed the stanchion, but didn't stress her any more at all. Yesterday I got in a few scritches on her neck and withers, and today I rubbed her pretty good and trimmed a foot. Yep - trimmed ONE foot, lol. Hey - it's a start!
I've gotta be sure to be there when she gives birth. I've found that if I get covered with birthing fluids, and I almost always do, that the does lick and clean me like one of the kids...and after that - they'remore accepting of me messing with their udders. Hope it works for her too.
