Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Stella, herding breeds can not have it with the MDR1 gene. Yes, we can have her tested for it to be sure (both parents were negative via parentage) but there is still a 50/50 chance she could react even if she is negative. With how close she is with the goats on a daily basis, she lurves her some goats and their poops, it is something I can't justify risking. Especially since we drew the short straw and had two of the three dogs develop fatal epilepsy. It makes things a little more interesting but we make it work and thankfully both drugs work for us.

I wondered if that's what it was. Gracie is an English Shepherd, which is a "collie-based' breed. She was tested and we've used Ivomec products on her with no problems at all. BUT - I DO understand your reluctance for sure!

Thankfully Gracie isn't a poop lover, lol! But, my chickens are...I wonder if they get any residual? Hmmmm, never gave that any thought - might need to!

I had a vet tell me it's made differently now and they don't react even with having the gene  now that's hilarious lol. We go to a different vet now.

I never knew that. Of course I don't have a herding dog...and only one of mine is a poo lover! She likes to stand next to us and eat the hooves we trim off too. So gross.
