Sheesh! That is kind of crazy! Thank goodness for antibiotics, for both of you! How're the new babies doing?

So glad your DH is back, with you feeling cruddy, it's good to have the help. You take care of you and rest, lady!

I'm still amazed and so happy that the little ones and mom are o.k. despite carrying the dead baby for so long. That could've ended really badly for them all.

Don't feel bad about being responsible and not visiting your day when you're sick! I think you definitely did the right thing. The nursing home won't thank you for bringing your nasties and sharing it with him and possibly the other residents and he'll understand

Got up early this morning...not exactly by choice. Discovered that steroids keep you awake - grrrr. But, I've been productive! Went out early, basically at daylight, and tossed some feed to the pigs, fed the goats and checked on mama and the little ones. Not so pleased with their progress. Little girl is nursing, but stopping to cry, then latching on again. Buckling seems stronger. Mama goat didn't come out to eat even though she ate if I brought it to her. Gonna check temps next time I go out. This is exactly the reason I don't like summer babies - they just can't handle the heat...but hoping to have a more steady stream of kids instead of all at once I decided to try it. Not pleased with my decision. Hoping today's weather will give them a break - we're supposed to have rain all day and stay in the 80's today and lower temps the rest of the week.

Argh -- went out to check on the little one and she's not feverish at all - in fact she's chilled. I have her inside now in a laundry basket with the dehydrator fan (with heat) pointed at her. She's sleeping...bless her cute little heart. I have a terrible feeling I may not end up with any doe kids this year!

There's a lull in the rain so we may head out to see dad. I called earlier and they said he was doing pretty good - he was eating - that's always a good sign. I made a blueberry, cream cheese dump cake this morning so I'm gonna take it to the facility to share with staff and residents. If I leave it here we'll just eat it and that's NOT the plan, lol.

Sorry the babies are having a rough start. Hope the doeling pulls through! I was wondering how they did in the heat... Apparently not well

The cake was/is delicious. We took it to the AL facility and left it there. The residents who tasted it pronounced it good! DH was mad at me for leaving the whole thing, lol, but we don't need the sugar!

I don't think the doeling is gonna make it. I got her warmed back up, but she's very weak. Her tummy is very round even though she hasn't had anything to eat in the last 4 hours so I gave her a tiny enema....got nothing back out...gave her a tiny bit of colostrum. Also gave selenium and vitamin e gel, probiotics and an injection of penicillin. It's up to her now...

Picked up some steaks on the way home and will grill them up later - if I can convince DH to fire up the grill on the rainy back porch. If not, I'll cook em inside - they'll be good either way, but I'm craving some grilled meat! Also picked up some big ol' Portobello mushroom tops to stuff with something, and a Caesar salad will round out the meal. I'm hungry! Guess I could start feeding the critters a little early and then get started on feeding the people. Dang it - blueberry cream cheese dump cake would be a good dessert

Thanks sumi - her struggles are over. She was never very strong, and since she was the baby in the middle behind the dead one and in front of another one her little body took a beating during labor. I think there must have been something internally wrong...she just didn't ever look right or feel right.

Went to see dad after lunch...he had been given his morphine about 45 minutes before we go there and he was so very groggy and out of it. It's hard seeing him that way - but at least he's not in pain.

Steaks are cooking and smell sooo good - oh my, I'm hungry...and tired. I have hit the proverbial wall and am going to stuff my face and go to bed.

Sorry about the little doe. All you can do is the best you can do. Hope you are feeling better. African dust? Doesn't this happen often? So you got some exotic pollen up your nose, different dust bunnies in your lungs, maybe residual camel dung dust too. With your luck, the camel dung dust brought the kookamunga crud worm eggs and your goats will come down with east coast African squirmy wormies that do not respond to your futile efforts to eradicate them. Now that I have cheered you up, I'll go now.

What kind of pep talk was that @baymule ?! OMG, LOL! goodness, I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard or long!

Catching up on your journal, FEM. You really do things whole-hog! Even getting sick! Sorry you've been feeling so poorly, I hope you're getting some relief now.

How are you doing now, are you feeling better? I hope you are getting some rest in-between everything you have/had to do around the farm.
