wow! that much rain that quick would be a flash flood event here

There was some brief street flooding in some parts of Houston - but not a huge event. We're south of Houston and even though one area fairly close to us got 5 inches it seems like we topped the list. Glad it didn't decide to stick around!

Beans are up and looking good! It's still a little early for blossoms, but I'm waiting anxiously!

I did spend a little bit of time weeding and mulching yesterday in the cream pea bed. It didn't get much attention earlier, so I tried to catch it up yesterday.

Garden this year is happening. It's still not getting the attention it needs but it's better than nothing. Trying a few new things like using big tubs for some things I never thought I would. Have some climbing things in the tubs close to fences and hope they will take off. Direct planted some peppers for DH and they've made their appearance. Fingers crossed for that. Also stuck a few okra seeds in the back of a bed. Not rows and rows like I've done previously - but it should be enough. Fingers crossed for some kind of harvest.

Truly this is what we need to do. Didn't you always have extras? Now you fill your needs and that's fine! I'm slowly realizing this It's hard to retrain yourself. Like cooking for 6 and suddenly only 2. Yep. It's the same, old habits die hard.

I still have dehydrated okra from several years ago. This time I think I planted 15 seeds and if they take off that should give us plenty for fresh eating. I still have collards going strong from last fall even though some are going to seed. I'm ok with that. The only thing I haven't planted that I still need/want to is winter squash. The only hybrid seed that I ever put in my garden is Argonaut squash. The stuff is amazing. Even the squash bugs generally don't do it much harm. I may find a place to plant one hill - just one, lol. I've gotten squash over 30 lbs that literally keep for months and months. Several years back I had some in a cardboard box in the corner of the dining room for over 6 months. No care other than to keep it cool and dry. Need to go dig out some seeds, lol.

Busy week - but aren't they all these days? Listed some goats a couple days ago. Just sold two bucklings. Always nice to get the boys outta here first. Same guy says he 'might' come back for more later. That's cool! Just glad to be getting a few mouths off the feed bill.

Had a follow up dermatologist appt. for DH on Wed. He occasionally gets diabetic blisters that turn in to open wounds on his legs because of poor circulation. Doc wraps them from instep to knees with a thing they call a "unna boot." They stay on for a week and can't get wet. Ugh! Have another follow up this week. He'll be removing the boot material and showering before we go thank you very much!

Need to put out a new round bale for the goats. I opened up the panels around the current bale last night so they could do some clean up. Mostly they eat on it for a couple hours then turn it into a hang out spot. Oh, and they don't mind using it as a bathroom also. They're haunting the pasture today until I can get a new bale set up for them. No waste though because I'll scrape out the current one and use it for mulch. It's full of good stuff. Garden will love it!

I've been trying to come up with the perfect name for a keeper buckling - keeping in mind that it must be a "T" name. First one I came up with was Tonka - cause he's tough like a tonka truck. The next name was Tequila - because tequila is pretty good stuff. Well...last night I was talking to a friend and telling her all the things I had wanted out of this cross and she said "you asked for it - you got it." TOYOTA! His name is Toyota, lol. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue but I love it anyway!

Went for a quick fishing trip this morning with DDIL. I caught a couple of blue gill - lost something big but never saw it. Had to get back here for the goat buyer so didn't really get enough fishing in to make me happy. Came home, sold goats, moved a round bale and saw a couple crickets hopping out from around where the bale was. I snatched those little buggers up and headed to the pond. I keep a cheapy pole out there so I stuck a cricket on a rusty hook and tossed it in the water. WOW! One cricket - one bass! Used the second cricket and caught a second bass! I found out what the bass love - cricket crack!

Right about now....bluegill should be picking up too. I think I need to start harvesting some bluegill this year. Don't need an overstocked pond with itty-bitty fish.

some lakes i used to fish up north had their smallmouth bass nesting season overlap with northern pike fishing season so you could be out going for the pike, but the bass would be hitting your lure every time you put it in the water. we usually were doing catch and release fishing anyways so it was a lot of fun, but we'd also get pretty tired. those bass were like latching onto freight trains.
