Hope the game goes well for your team this afternoon
I hope so! This team has so much talent and heart that they deserve good things! We love our Texans for sure.

It got cold overnight. I doubted my weather stations temp reading when I woke up - but there's plenty of ice out there to make me think it wasn't so far off.

Full on sun this morning and temps are rising. Baby goats are bouncing around everywhere! They don't seem the least bit perturbed by the cold. Thankfully, they're not newborns and have grown and filled out enough to weather the weather, lol.

Been working on preps for the trip to S. Carolina in March for DGS's graduation from basic. I've already got a reservation for a vehicle. Also have hotel reservations for the 3 nights we'll spend near base. We'll make the reservation for the first day on the road while on the road. Not sure how far we'll go the first day so not going to make a reservation until we have an idea of where we'll end up. Spent some time yesterday ordering real paper maps for the 4 states we'll be driving through. Yes, we all have smart phones and tablets, but I like an honest to goodness map from time to time. I even know how to fold one, lol.

Well Boo! Texans lost today. I hate to say it - but they deserved to. Not sure what happened to them. The weather was horrible, we had injuries in some major players and our quarterback seems to have lost his mojo. Darn shame - but there's always next year!

Pulled some turnips for dinner. Most were nice- but whew(!) one had a bite to it! Cooked a couple strips of bacon, sliced and then sauteed the turnips. YUM!

I got a surprise call from DGS today! He had an hour to make all the phone calls he could fit in. It was great to talk to him!

Cold but beautiful. Not really sure how cold it was but there was enough ice to know we definitely had a freeze. I can do without anymore...

Still doing preps for the trip, trying to keep up with regular chores along with taking care of problems as they pop up. Going to have to redo the water line - again. I'll put spacers in before I fill the hole with dirt next time. Supposed to have some "weather" coming this weekend so that chore is at the top of the list. Or - I'll just leave water running like I did last time, lol. I hate to waste the electricity and the water but I guess it's not wasted if it keeps things from freezing.

DH had been doing pretty good walking and staying upright until yesterday. He fell in the little half-bath. On his way down he grabbed (or maybe he hit) the vanity and pulled it away from the wall. I don't know why that didn't destroy the water lines but thankfully things were ok. He's ok too - but really sore - as usual. Poor guy - it's sure a blow to his confidence when that happens. Or maybe he's been overconfident lately...

Seems like baby goats are everywhere! There's only 11 of 'em but when they're running around everywhere it seems like a lot more. Quite a few of them are getting way too friendly. It's a good thing though, makes 'em easier to catch when need be. Still have a possibility of 5 more does kidding. Two are for sure bred, the other 3 are 'likely.'

Whew, I've discovered that I have too many chickens. The feed bill is high and we can't keep up with the eggs. My neighbors came home last night from being out of town for the weekend and found that something had slaughtered most of their birds. Five hens and a chick were killed. All they have left is a roo and a chick. Horrible thing for them to deal with but when you leave their pen open...

That was a long way of saying that I have a solution to my over stock and they have a solution to not needing to purchase new hens. The caveat is that they will be REQUIRED to provide a safer home for my birds than they did for theirs. I don't think that's asking too much.

Hope DH gets over sore quickly! It's the pits.🫤

Neighbors, absolutely need to be more attentive! That's a real loss and kind of you to offer more hens -- IF they even want more? Of course, being close, yours will come back home if neighbors free range them 😄🤫 Maybe they buy some feed for yours & you give them eggs.

I just collected 19 this morn 😱 and there will be a couple more tonight. Gonna take 3 dz to my fig tree friend. She got 3.5 dz last week. Share! Plus DD & DGD got couple dz each. All those new pullets from summer hatch! Seemed good idea at the time.🤣

They definitely want more. They've had building a new coop/pen on their list but haven't gotten around to it yet. Supposed to be an upcoming weekend chore. They're going to have to make it secure to keep "my" chickens at their house or they will definitely come back home. Nope on the buy me feed and I give them eggs. Good idea in most cases but I need the space and I need less chores. If they want 'em they have to provide a safe home and keep 'em well fed. I'll supply them with eggs until they're set up to take 'em home.
