Whew! Never been so glad to be home. We got home Saturday a little after 4.

Monday started out less than perfect. I should have taken that as an omen, lol. We were supposed to pick up the rental car at 8am. It wasn't ready until 10. I had a talk with the manager, told him we would be missing several deadlines because of the delay. He worked with us and we got some compensation for the problems.

With the delays from that and some road problems we didn't make it as far as we'd planned. Got a room and started unloading. Got to the room and DH's left knee collapsed. Poor guy was really hurting. Glad I brought the wheelchair.

Tuesday had to be the low-light of the entire trip. We got up Tuesday morning and had the hotel breakfast. Not great but not terrible. About a half-hour down the road DH is feeling nauseous. An hour after that he's tossing his cookies on the side of the road. No - that's a lie. He's tossing his cookies all over the door of the car. Another hour and we're doing it again. This went on literally all day. Alllll day. We gave him Pepto...an acid reducing pill, and ginger ale...he just kept throwing up. All. Day. Worst day ever. What was supposed to be 9 hours on the road turned into almost 13. I felt so bad for him! There was literally nothing we could do but keep going. What we thought was food poisoning however, turned out to be plain old motion sickness - or maybe a combination of both.

Wednesday morning we head out to the base for Family Day. It's literally only 6 minutes away and he announces that he feels nauseous again. ARGH! Even though base is only 6 minutes away we were stuck in a line to get in for at least 30 minutes. As long as we're not moving he's ok. We get to base and the temp is 41 with 20mph winds. I thought that several thousand people were going to collectively freeze to death in those stands. There were vendors there with all manner of "stuff" to sell. DDIL and I went and bought two blankets, three pairs of gloves and two hoodies. Over $200 (!) but I didn't care at that point. At least we survived. When the sun started coming up it got better and the day ended up being beautiful.

The trainees had until 6pm to spend with family so we went bowling on base. It was fun, but I should have stopped at one game. As a result, I overworked my right shoulder and it's still not happy with me. Afterwards we found a nice spot by a lake and spent a few hours just visiting. It was a nice day after the freezing start. On the way back to the hotel we found a Walmart and got Dramamine for DH. Thankfully, that solved all the problems with nausea, and we didn't have that to worry about for the rest of the trip - thank goodness!

Thursday was graduation. We got out there just as early, waited the requisite 3 hours for the ceremony to start. It was much warmer and hardly any wind, so it wasn't bad. After graduation DGS was allowed to go off base, so we headed to his choice, Buffalo Wild Wings, for lunch. Spent a couple hours there and then headed to a cute park to sit and chat away the afternoon. Much too quickly it was time for him to head back to base and leave for his next training in Virginia. Not sure what happened, but my eyes were leaking when we said g'bye. That boy is so special to me. Only sad part was that DD wasn't there.

Friday morning, we started heading home. Son and DIL wanted to visit the racetrack at Talladega, AL. We went through the Motorsport Hall of Fame and then toured the track. We were given a ride around the racetrack including a little bit of time on the really high banks of the track. So much fun! My first husband worked many years in the Nascar racing industry and we actually raced at Talladega in the late '70's. Everything at that track has changed since then, but it was still a bit nostalgic to be there. Left there and drove to the same hotel we stopped at on the first night.

Got home Saturday afternoon. Came home to chaos. Pigs had gotten out and messed up some chicken pens. Chickens were everywhere!

Another gate was open and goats were all out in the pasture where they weren't supposed to be. My neighbor didn't notice that the gate was open because the goats were all back where they should've been at feeding time. They haven't been on grass since last year. I always start them slowly when letting them out of their dry lot situation.

Several of the does have diarrhea and one was missing. I found her dead in the pasture. All the does that had kids this year have already had their CDT shots, but this doe wasn't bred so she hadn't had her shot yet. She wasn't due until June though. Poor neighbor girl was devastated. I tried to reassure her that I wasn't angry and that I don't blame her. Because of school she was only able to feed once a day, so she wasn't really around enough to know what was going on.

So grateful that DS and DDIL were with us. They helped with everything from my son taking DH to restrooms along the way to unloading/reloading all the luggage. I swear, without them that trip would have been practically impossible. They are simply the BEST!

Even with all the chaos I wouldn't have missed it the trip. It was awesome to see GS!

Now, back to everyday life.
