Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Still struggling to find time to get the gardening done. Between all of DH's appts and me being a tiny bit under the weather not a lot is getting done. Also need to do the first big mowing chore of the season. I've mowed the yard once already, (it needs it again) but I need to get the pathway to the pond and the high stuff around the pond before we get some rain. Pond is a little down now so maybe I can get close to the edge without going IN!

Some of the barred rock pullets have started laying. Yay! Probably going to sell a few of them and a few of the RIR's. Pullets are bringing pretty good prices. Might pay for a few bags of feed, which would be nice. I like it when critters pay for their own groceries.

I spent about 3 hours on the mower this morning and didn't finish everything. Got the front half of the pasture and around the pond, then did the front and side yards. Didn't get to the back yard because it started raining. Put the mower up and the rain stopped. Of course it did! So, cleaned and prepped another planting bed. Intend to get seeds in the ground soon!

Still battling allergies. Seems to have settled in my chest with lots of coughing going on now. I do not like it. I have too much to do to be down for any reason.

This week has been a marathon of medical appts for DH. Two more for next week and still have to reschedule one that was canceled.

Rain is in the forecast for later today. We need it.

You should have got rain Saturday. It rained at my sister's in Conroe and I got 3/4" here at my place. We need more rain! at least it washed tree pollen down. Hope you feel better.

We did get rain and I do feel like I've turned the corner. I never felt real sick from the allergies - just worn down and tired (and really annoyed), lol.

it's been a bit of a mess here with the flooding and roads that are closed. i still don't know how the road through our local small town is doing until i pull up the map and see if it is reopened again. hmm, looks open. Mom decided to call our friend who does a lot of delivery driving to see what he says.

DH is sore from his dental work but at least the worst of it is behind him.

Today's plan is to get some more gardening work done. I need to clean out several more raised beds and get more seeds in the ground. I want to plant some Argonaut winter squash and need to find a place for it. It's a hybrid winter squash and the only hybrid I grow but it's totally worth it. I've harvested squash that have been well over 20lbs and it's also a very good keeper. It does spread out a LOT but bigger is better right, lol!

Mama pig is driving me a little crazy! She is not happy with the menu lately. Because of that she's breaking out of her (hastily thrown together out of old rusty panels) pen. Yesterday she was in with the goats and loving it. Not a terrible thing, but I'm opening a gate to let the does out into the pasture, and I don't want her and her offspring to get out there. I'm afraid I'd never see 'em again! It kinda is hog heaven, but the timing is off. Another day in the life of a farmer, I guess.

Going to put a few eggs in the incubator - not a lot - just a few. I've got a naked neck hen with a silkie rooster and am trying for some "show girls." They are soooo cute (or ugly depending on your perspective). Basically a silkie feathered bird with a naked neck. :fl
