Woke up a little before 6 to DH's low blood sugar alarm. Got that taken care of and he's back asleep. I'm not, lol. I'm ok with it. It's actually later than I sometime sleep. Want to hit the ground running as soon as the sun is up - if it's not raining. It's out there, but coverage is spotty.
Got a blood draw done on DH yesterday, then to the grain mill, Home Depot, the pharmacy and back home before 9:30a.
Grabbed a couple of eggplants and some pepper plants at HD since I never got seeds started this year. They are safely transplanted. Got one more bed cleaned out and planted also. So far, the planting includes green and purple beans, southern cream peas, corn, bell peppers, a jalapeno pepper and a habanero plant. Today, weather permitting, I'd like to work up a spot for some argonaut squash and some okra. Without much hope for success, I stuck a few tomato seeds in some large planters in front of the house and I'll tuck a few summer squash seeds somewhere. Squash bugs and stink bugs keep my expectations low for success with either of those
but I'll keep trying.
Piglets are thriving! Their mama is pretty awesome for being such a young mother. Only problem is she's gotten extremely picky about her groceries. She wants nothing to do with commercial pig food. Gonna have to suck it up mama cuz I'm not cooking any more oatmeal for you, lol. She's marginally interested in fermented corn but boiled eggs are manna from heaven as far as she's concerned. Luckily I have plenty of eggs.
Speaking of eggs, my young Barred Rock and Rhode Island Reds are starting to lay those cute little pullet eggs. I can't use all the eggs they lay but there's a method to my madness. The eggs supplement the pig food, dog food and make nice gifts to neighbors.
One of my old neighbors passed away yesterday. She's been in assisted living/memory care for several years. I'll visit with the family this weekend.
Sun is UP - time to get busy.
