Mama pig is feeding her babies so well that they're barely eating feed at all. Without figuring out that I'm the bringer of the goodies they still think I'm the enemy. I need to get 'em to love me so I can catch 'em to sell or gonna have to figure out a way to shuffle 'em into a corner and block it off from mama when the time comes. Have a couple more weeks to figure that out.
Last baby goat of the season was born a couple days ago. Buckling of course. He's a mixed-up mess of breeds, but I wonder how that would work out as a buck prospect. He's 1/4 Nubian, 1/4 Kiko from his mama's side and 1/4 Boer and 1/4 Myotonic from his daddy's side. I've been losing the Nubian influence in the herd and would like to keep a little bit of that going on. Might watch him for a while. He's big, sturdy and correct so he bears watching. Only downside is that I'll need to disbud him. I despise that chore.
We got rain! Great for the garden, right? However, I didn't realize it was going to get so cool, or I might have held off on planting yesterday. Our temp went down to 52 overnight. Yikes! We've been well into the 80s for a while now - hope the soul was able to hold on to some of that warmth overnight. Supposed to get cool again tonight. Boo!

Busy times around here. What else is new. Had plans to do garden work all day yesterday when I got a call from DS. It was car show day! I never miss car show day so I re-arranged my expectations for the day. I headed out a few minutes earlier than planned. DH's car, which has been driven very little in the last couple of years, needed a new battery. It sat too long and wouldn't hold a charge. I got it started with my trusty jump starter and drove straight to the battery place. They had it changed and I was back on the road in less than 10 minutes. I was surprisingly and pleasantly shocked that they were so fast! Headed to the car show and spent the day chatting with DS, DIL, and her mom. DIL's two nieces were there also - ages 4 and 12. They're a lot of fun.

Whew - today was pig day. Glad it's done. They have a really good life and one split second that's not so much fun for 'em. Actually, I don't think they even know anything happened. Bullets are really fast! His last thought was how much more corn he could cram into his mouth.
It took me 90 minutes from first cut to having him in the ice chest. That was a good half hour longer than usual - but OMG - I need to learn to sharpen knives. Pig hide is the toughest thing ever and knives do not like it. I guess I need some practice or a really good knife sharpener.
Even ice has gone up in price. Geeze, it's just frozen water! Ugh. It takes a lot of ice because Mr Piggy will sit in the ice chest in salty ice water for a couple of days. Wednesday will probably be cut and wrap day. I'll be glad to have it finished.
Raised beds are mostly filled. I've got the dirt ready to go in the last one, but we had about 17 feet of rain Saturday so I haven't worked on 'em since Friday. Can probably finish in about 15 minutes tomorrow.
Tuesday will be check-up day at DH's primary care doc. Don't expect any issues. He's been coasting for awhile - all systems go!
