I have a small area of raised earth that is mostly under the eves of the house. This area gets a little bit of light ,no direct sun and our heavy rainfall(100 inches or more a year on our island) really does not overpower it unless rain is on a slant. The bed is raised due to property consisting of lava. I would like to know if there is a vegetable I can plant there to make use of the wasted space and save some more money planting food . Groceries are expensive on the island. Currently we are underway planting tomatoes, cucumbers. We have a few herbs in our garden such as lavender, oregano, basil, rosemary. Due to heavy downpours we potted rosemary and oregano and move around the property with them. I use alot of cabbage both Chinese and the regular and buy it once aweek for my chickens along with carrots ,sprout seeds etc. Any suggestions?

Leaf lettuce? I know when i plant it, it doesn't like direct sunlight--it wilts in the bright sun. You would need to water it though.

My first thought was parsley; it doesn't need a lot of sun, and, in my kitchen, I can't ever have too much. Mint would also like such a spot, assuming that it gets enough water.
