I would say thast if you left milk in pans in the fridge, that wouldn't work at all, cuz, like what SD says, it would be very hard to collect. if you go to skim it, it will move out of the way,and mix in with the milk again. I keep my milk in pickle jars, and I just use a tablespoon to collect the cream. I get about 2 or 3 tbsps after a few days in the fridge.

Im not gonna bother with one either, if I can make a nice batch of butter once a month Ill be content.
