The first deer we got, I ran out and bought amanual meat grinder. I used it for probably about 3 hours, then gave up and the next time we went to the big city, I bought an Oster meat grinder. ( I htink that is the name of it) If you are not doing alot of meat grinding, you might bbe okay with a manual, but for doing a deer or moose, unless you have patience and really strong arm muscles, (think fatigue here), I would go with an electric hands down. Look for the most powerful motor you can find.

I agree. A large manual grinder is ok if you have lots of time and need the exercise; a small manual grinder is only ok if you are just doing a very small amount infrequently; an electric grinder is really the thing for processing large quantities though. I have only used other peoples' so have no brand recommendations, though, sorry.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

Yeah I don't plan on grinding too much, but if it does come to that point, I'll hook it up to a bike, like i plan to with a grain mill!

You could do what my father did. He made me a powered grinder by attaching a large pulley to the shaft of a manual meat grinder and used a 1/3 horse power electrical motor to drive the pulley.

yeah, it's not purdy to look at...but it works great!

Then, using some 4 inch pvc and other misc parts he made a sausage stuffer as seen below:
