Lovin' The Homestead
Hi all! Glad I found this forum! It right where we are in our lives.
I'm 50 yo, retired nurse, owner of a non-profit and married to my high school sweetheart for 29 yrs. My hubby is cruising into retirement from a job he has had with the county for 26 yrs. He started a second career as a Pastor and is the pastoral counsel for the non-profit we own. Our son is 26 and lives about 40 mins way.
We traded in the 'burbs life and bought an old farm house on a couple acres that has a small cottage on it and a chapel. The property came with chickens and a great plot of garden. Living in the tight neighborhoods before, a garden ment a 6x6 spot or a few containers. Now I have a 50'x30 plowed plot and plenty more area if i need it.
The previous owners were very "interesting" decorators and had a scavenger way of fixing things. (hence the name Crazy Acres) It's taken us 7 mos of nearly gutting the house and fixing rotten walls and floors, and fixing crazy decor and we are getting close to being able to move in.
Our goal is self sufficiency and complete readiness for disasters and if someone needs help due to accident, fire or even the possibility of apocalyptic events.
