We got a heavy rain the other day and now the top part of the onion bulb is starting to poke up through the garden. Is this ok or should I add some more dirt to cover them up?

I really don't know if it needed, but I would. At the very least I'd mulch them.

Onions respond to daylight hours. So they will keep growing til summer solstice. I would cover them a little bit, to protect them from sunscald for a few more weeks. But don't worry about it too much. Ours always heave out of the ground by end of May, early June. It is what they do.

Thanks for the replies. The bulbs are only about 2 inches in diameter. They've only been in the ground about 6 weeks. I think I'll cover them for a little longer. Thanks for the link though, there is a bunch of good info I'll bookmark for later.
