Thanks everybody for the healing wishes.
I stayed at the hospital with him till he came home. He was pretty nervous before surgery and I didn't want him to try to do "too much - too soon" after the surgery.
The surgery went fine. He is tired and hurting today but has been back home about an hour. They usually just keep you overnight for a spinal fusion, so that's normal.

Recovering from the surgery will take a while so you're not late. He will be using a "collar" for a couple weeks full-time, then a couple more part-time. I hope the pain part of the healing is over quick.

Thanks- the surgery was yesterday. He'll be sore and tired while healing from it, but the bad disk is out of the way.

Thanks. He's sleeping now and I will be soon. Neither of us got much rest while he was at the hospital.
