Hello - New here from WV

Hi!

My name is Hollie, from Wild Wonderful West Virginia. We just moved to a new farmette on 12 acres. We have a dozen laying chickens that free range like they own the place during the day and get locked up like prisoners at night because of a ridiculous raccoon population. We've trapped 4 coons in as many days and had them taken away. Who knows how many more...

We also have mini-nubian dairy goats, 3 of which just kidded this last week. 3 doelings and 3 bucklings running about sure is fun!

My husband and I have a 6 year old son and 5 year old daughter who are most successfully homeschooled. We use a Charlotte Mason method of homeschooling.

I am a couponer/stockpiler and can't wait to get our veggie garden put in!

I suppose that is absolutely all I can think of to tell about myself. Just thought I'd introduce myself.

I am new also, Beekissed's big sister. Also in WV. I live in small Mt. town.

Have 1/4 acre lot and 100+ yrs. old house, that we heat with wood that we scavenge, and give-aways( we always have enough), 1 wood stove with cook top, and 1 custom made cast iron drum built into a furnace.

We buy older Cadillacs and have them reconditioned to drive(the ultimate in recycling)I just got my first Escalade because in the Mtns. 4wd is not optional, we get over 150 inches of the white stuff per yr. (s__w is a 4 letter word in this house) this winter was about 300 inches.

I live SS as much as circumstances allow. I sew (since I was 8 yrs. old) Quilt, Crochet, Knit. Member of Crochet Guild of America) I have a masters certificate in basic stitches from same. Bake my own bread ( sourdough), pick wild blackberrys, and black rasberries to make preserves, jelly and wine. I have nice rubarb and garlic patch in back yard and grow conainers and flower beds and hanging baskets, 3kinds of mint tea, lavender. parsley,sage, rosemary, and thyme..., cherry tomatoes, 8-ball zuccini, lettuce, rainbow chard, and much more. We have a very short growing season. I do store and prep for emergency situations because we have experienced a few over the years. I also have experience in living off grid.

We live nere a large Amish community so there is always lots of local produce and meat if we want it, actually a little cheaper than raising it ourselves, ( been-there-done-that). Lots of organic farmers at our local markets in the season. Although I would rather have a garden,but, my property is steep, covered with moss, and there are more slugs than you could even imagine.

I have six dozen beautiful ex-large brown eggs in my frig and I didn't buy them at the store. Thats all I have to say about that.

I live with DH of 37 yrs. DD and DS grown, empty nest for about 15 yrs. no grandchildren, DD lives next door. I don't work outside the home. I am a minister, I spend a lot of time in Bible study, spiritual and theocratic activities, which I understand cannot be discussed here. I am working on an afghan and a quilt top at the present time. I am a fair cook, mostly Italian, taught by my D(departed)MIL.

I mostly like to view the threads on these forums as a bystander,(I prefer that to lurker). I find some of them interesting just so you know I mean no harm. It has taken me an hour to write this. What can I say, I'm a boomer and ADD, never learned to type, didn't grow up with computers.

That's cool! and thanks for the welcome. I am more of a spectator on here, but I'll say something when I have something to say! lol. Good to know there are others so close by who are trying to lead the same kind of lives we are.
