I have used my new pressure cooker 2x ...one chicken and one roast....it was wonderful both times. But an old lady told me she never cooks brown beans in one cause they can blow up, due to all the gas from the beans??? Is this true?? I used to be scared of using one but I got one for christmas and want to cook beans in it. Is there any danger of them blowin up with beans?? I could use a good recipe if not....thanks ! :)

I've never used a pressure cooker to cook beans, so no tips there.

We've always soaked them & cooked on the stovetop for 45 minutes or so. More recently (maybe the last 8 months) I've been doing a super long soak, as in 2-3 full days, up to 72 hours.

I drain/rinse them everyday & add fresh water. If I'm ready to cook them, I put on another batch & let it soak until the next time we eat beans. This way I always have beans available and ready for a quick cooking.

ETA: Relatively quick, for beans anyways :D

If your pressure blows up from cooking beans then the pressure release valve isn't working.

I cook beans in a pressure quite often. Old beans don't do too good with just soaking. Also hard water can slow down the soaking process.

I use my pressure cooker all the time to cook brown beans and they always turn out great! I usually soak them overnight and then cook them in the pressure cooker for about 45 minutes with a big piece of salt bacon in them. You might want to cook them a little more after you take the lid off the pressure cooker. It just depends on how thick you like the juice and how tender you like your beans. Normally, most recipes that I have found doesn't call for cooking them 45 minutes , it's just that we like our beans more tender than most recipes call for. You'll just have to tinker with the timings. Good Luck!
