I'm thinking of making a small batch of gardener's soap... Only I can't find any recipe that's small. I'm going for about two pounds. So this is the scaled down version of one I found online. I did run it through a lye calculator, and it's superfatted to %7. But I know that you're not supposed to mess with the lye, so does this sound good to any of you?

Olive oil 16 oz (50%)

Coconut oil 9.6 oz (30%)

Palm oil 6.4 oz (20%)

Lye 4.5 oz

Water 12 oz

Fragrance 1 oz

4 teaspoons poppy seeds

I might want to color the soap, but for the life of me I can't find amounts or even what to use. I think I can just ask the person at the Soap Bar. And no swirling this time, just one solid color. I have all the ingredients for this, except the poppy seeds and coloring.

We haven't had rain here for about 23 days and it's getting tiresome. Rain dance anyone??

Does that count as a rain dance? I am soooooo ready for some rain. If it doesn't rain by this weekend I'm going to have to start taking anti-depressants!

I like your plan of making gardener soap. So I suppose it should be green, but IMO only if you have a natural colorant. (Is that what you are already using?) What fragrance are you thinking? Something flowery or more herbal? I like the use of poppy seeds. Is this the next soap you are planning to make?

I only made one batch of soap before this, and I didn't color it, so I have no idea what to use. I read a spiffy way to add green flecks to soap... It's with nori (seaweed!) but I dunno how well that will go with the poppy seeds. But I have a feeling the Soap Bar will have something natural. This is Bellingham we're talking about! As for fragrances, I don't have anything in mind yet. Maybe Lemon Grass EO? Something light, not heavy florals. I'm not fond of vanilla or things like that. My first soap is Red Apple scent, so that's the stuff I like. I also love Sweet Orange EO like WHOA.

RAIIIIIIIIIIIIIN! These endless sunny days are getting downright BORING.

Oh cool, I would do no color and use nori + poppy seed. Lemon grass sounds like a good scent, but I'm not sure . . . would the nori add some smell that might not combine well? Just a thought. I hate floral scents too. I like culinary ones though, including vanilla. I also like earthy scents. Sweet orange sounds good.

I want a nice cool cloudy day so I can sleep in and not feel guilty (I try to get up early and do my chores early on hot days).

Henny, have you ever used avacados for soap? I thought I read that somewhere, it would make a green soap you'd think.

In a recent issue of Wilderness Way magazine, they made soap, then they remade it and added ground/chopped sage. Sounded nice, looked pretty, but a LOT of work.

According to weather.com, I'm not supposed to get rain until NEXT WEDNESDAY. Kill me now. Don't get me wrong, sun is fine, but not this much of it. Like when I went to Reno once. My lips cracked and bled while I was sleeping, and when I got up I thought I was dieing. I'm sure the hotel staff loved all the blood on the pillow. But we're pretty humid right now, 61%. So at least we have that.

Soap! I'm being stubborn and waiting until my mom comes to visit to make more. For one, she'll most likely want to make some for herself, and two... Well... She might pay for any extra stuff I need, like EOs and spiffy molds. Plus it's always fun shopping with someone, and I don't know too many people up here that I can call and say "lets go smell things!"
