Hey, does anyone know how much a geothermal system costs?

oh I am totally for geo can't wait til we get ours in and from the way I understand it region only affects cost in the parts and labor. Since the source is actually pulled from the ground.

We put ours in about 10 years ago and love it!

It's already paid for itself many times over.

For example, back when we put it in heating costs were quite high. People with houses comparable to ours were paying $300-$400 in heating bills that winter.

Our highest bill was $115.

It is more expensive, but worth it.

Does it get very cold during winter in your area?

Thanks for the welcome.

I've read this site for a while and started to just jump in.

I live in SD and yeah, it can get pretty cold....10 below 0 is not uncommon.

The system works pretty well, but when it approaches that temperature, the back-ups kick in. That's where it does get costly as they are electrical backups. :(

My DH used to install the systems a while back (about 10 years ago)... he said the largest cost was the labour so doing some of the things yourself could help... the systems they installed ranged from 10-45K, depending on the house and the needs of the family, and whether the house had duct work already or not.

Winter here can get as low as -40, so you also should have backups.

For now we heat with wood, but someday when we build our new house will have a geothermal system.
